Tom Coughlin
|
Quote:Coughlin isnt a guy that likes people in his way. He actually made the team worse when he was given the reigns of front office operations. Id prefer him as a coach and he grooms a coordinator to take over in 2 to 3 years. He had complete control his first stint here

Quote:Mike Silver reported Coughlin tried to join Bradley's staff this offseason and said he was willing to take any spot. Bradley looked at Coughlin's resume and decided he didn't qualify; apparently his IQ was too high. Quote:I want him to be the Head Coach. If not, then I DON'T want him in the building. He may deter some candidates, with the idea of having to work with/under him. Funny enough, Prisco actually brought that up a couple weeks ago on Jaguars Monday. He thought Tom would likely micromanage a lot of things because that's just who he is and that could deter some candidates. It would be Tom's organization first and foremost and some candidates would want to go somewhere where it's their team. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I want him to be the Head Coach. If not, then I DON'T want him in the building. He may deter some candidates, with the idea of having to work with/under him. I'd love for him to be the HC for the simple fact that the players would be exposed to extreme discipline and attention to detail; and for that, the players would ultimately love him for making them better players and much more importantly, a much better team. Remember the ole, if you're not at my 8am meeting by 7:55am you're deemed late and as such, will be disciplined accordingly. Actions like that made people like Michael Strahan potential hall of famers.
Quote:I want Tom to control it all, go Tom go! Warning. He busted our cap by giving Brunell and Boselli cap breaking contracts after their Prime. He probably learned his lesson but it did happen with TC controlling the $$

He was bad at managing the cap, but overall he was pretty darn good at selecting players. I assume Idzik will be sticking around to manage the cap and obviously Dave is still around. Tom would essentially be here to have input on all facets of the team.
Was kidding, there's no way he'll touch the teams money. Caldwell has that job.
Interesting ......
Coughlin passed on a QB in year 1 Coughlin traded for Brunell Coughlin got Fred Taylor for a draft pick by giving up QB Rob Johnson Coughlin lobbied for Eli Manning and won 2 super bowls vs Belichick with his last minute comebacks. I'd have to say Coughlin knows QBs and also knows how to beat Brady, Belichick, and the Patriots with 2 weeks to prepare. Quote:Interesting ...... He's a HOF coach. We should all be thrilled to get him back here if he'd come. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:That obviously means he tried to join the coaching staff, not the front office.Queen of picking nits, ladies and gentlemen.
You either die as a good poster, or live long enough to become the troll.
I'd take him as a coach, but I don't want him anywhere near the front office.
I'll take him at any spot in the organization. Dude has a great football mind. So I like this rumor. Hope it comes true.

Quote:I'd take him as a coach, but I don't want him anywhere near the front office. I like Caldwell but considering we've had top 5 draft picks IN EACH ROUND over the past 4 seasons and pretty much had an open checkbook to free agents, it's not like we're currently hitting jackpot. Hope it doesn't turn into a case of too many cooks in the kitchen.
How it will it work even? Will he be below Caldwell in the power structure? Caldwell is looking at this as probably a 2/3 year plan to save his job, Coughlin likely has a very exact vision of molding this team into his own image for the next 10 years. The new HC who comes in is probably going to be coaching for his job in year 1+2 in order to save Caldwell. Have a feeling this will get messy.
I think Coughlin should coach and Dave be the GM. I dont like the idea of Coughlin and Caldwell doing the same thing. That could be disastrous. You might as well fire Dave Caldwell if you want Coughlin as the VP of Football Operations. Coughlin likes to be in charge, I just see that not working out well.
Im a big fan of bringing back Coughlin and I think what the fans and Dave Caldwell need is a winning culture and to compete. Coughlin will bring you that. We can debate if we are a talented team or not, but I see talent there. I think we had some bad coaching which played in hand with the lack of discipline and lack luster environment Bradley created. My ideal situation is Coughlin comes back for 2 to 3 years, brings discipline and a culture of winning. We may not make the playoffs next year, I cant predict that, but I do see a quick turn around happening and I think Coughlin can train this team up and make the necessary tweaks to the roster that will make us better. After a few seasons, when hes ready to retire, he will have groomed a coordinator to replace him.
Quote:Get Coughlin AND a top tier coach? Win. I'd be fine with that, as long as he's not the coach. As an executive, I'd welcome him. Ideally, he'd come back and make the deals, ala drafting, free agency and trades, but Caldwell would be in charge of the finances, so Coughlin would be put in check and we wouldn't be put back into a terrible cap situation. |
