If we moved on from Blake

Quote:Oh God No to Cutler.

At least it took 36 posts before someone mentioned Cutler.

Have you watched Cutler at anytime during his career with either team he has been on? His "I don't care attitude" will never lead him to being a winner.

Dear God, no Cutler, I've seen enough Cutler to know I want no Cutler, and I have a friend whose favorite team is the Bears and he can't wait for him to be gone.

Also, there is no savior QB out there right now, but I do figure they will bring in a vet from somewhere, but all the time pray titiian Bortles shows up next year, which is pretty wishful thinking.

If he doesn't, the Jags are just going to end up being another team with a good/decent defense and a below average QB on offense, next season.

Was I advocating for Cutler?

I also think Chad Kelly in the late 4th round or later could be a steal too. He needs to get his head on straight but he's got a lot of talent for where he might wind up sliding.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Or we could draft one

But he hasnt been trash, he might not have been great you guys throw trash around way too much

Mike Glennon is actual trash. Tyrod has been okay this year. Jimmy for a 1st is tough unless we swap firsts and we still get a pick in round 1 but if you do that its no competition its his job.

No Fun

You mentioned the option of Taylor probably over Cutler and that was enough for me.

No thanks to anything involving, anything to do with Cutler, talented, yes, a head case, a bigger yes.

It is rare that you can find a franchise QB in FA, but it has happened before, but the FA QBs who will be available sure don't look anything like possible Franchise QBs to me.

Who was the last franchise QB that went to a new team via Free Agency? Drew Brees?

I survived the Gus Bradley Error.

It sounds like you're inferring a lot more from my post than what was actually said.

There are no franchise QBs on the market.

The obvious answer is to sign someone who would be a backup but could come in and start if Bortles can't get back to form. Would Tyrod Taylor be comfortable in that role? If so, I agree with others here that he's the best option.

One other name to consider is Ryan Fitzpatrick. He served in that role and successfully took over for Geno Smith. This year he didn't play very well, but that may be because he missed all of training camp when the Jets low-balled him.

IMO, trading for Garoppolo is a mistake. When has a New England backup to Brady succeeded elsewhere?

There is an article today on Yahoo that reported starting negotiations for Jimmy Garoppolo would start at a 1st and a 4th round pick.

Tyrod is the best but hes not really that good, and everyone else is trash.

The only viable option is a Romo rental.

I do agree hes the only option really. However I still want to see what Blake does. I do think we should pass on Taylor cause I doubt he'll be cheap enough. However I'm all for drafting a mid/late QB. Just my opinion.

Speaking of Cutler, this gives me a chance to voice my Cutler take. Ok, here goes...

Dude is so average that he defines the word for NFL quarterbacks. He's not slightly better or slightly worse than average... he's dead center. If you are better than Cutler, you are a good quarterback. If you are worse than Cutler, you are a bad quarterback. It's so cut and dry, and the more you try to fight this take the more you'll realize I'm right about this.

Fitz understands that role well, but his stats never quite reach that balling level. I don't see him as a come from behind quarterback, and that's what we need from a starter. Bortles actually has that when he's zoned in. You see, Bortles is a Jeckle and Hyde type of quarterback. This year all we've seen was Dr. Jeckle, but some of us recall last year when Mr. Hyde would come out and play. I still have hope for Bortles' future, but at this stage it's tough to rely on him as the guy. At the very least they need insurance behind him, such as say Fitzpatrick, and ideally they can use a veteran presence in front of him, such as say Romo.

BTW, can we please finally kick Henne to the curb?

I think your analysis of Bortles is pretty good. He's should have been compared to Romo and Rivers coming out. That's really who he is, he does some wow things and puts up numbers but I think he makes too many costly errors. Even if Bortles were to grow into a decent thrower. Do I believe that he can take a team into the post-season when it matters? When are those fatal flaws going to rear their ugly heads? That was the problem Dallas had for years. When it mattered Tony failed. Romo put up big numbers when it didn't matter just like Bortles. It was easy to champion romo as a great player but when it mattered, he got exposed. Prescott doesn't have the arm that Tony had, and he struggles in a lot of ways that Tony did not. Prescott took his job because he doesn't make bad decisions with the ball and he plays the short game.

I prefer consistency in my Quarterback, I don't want to waste my time with Romo, Bradford, Cutler or Rivers.. Culter amazes me, he still gets work and is considered a reliable veteran.

Fragile Romo nearly dies behind the great wall of Dallas 2.0 and ya'll want him here? You cray.

Tyrod sucks.  Jimmy G is the only one who has an upside.  I don't think there is anyone in the draft worth taking in the first 2 rounds.  Take Jimmy G.  Have him compete against Bortles, and if it's not looking like he can take this team anywhere, draft someone the following year.

Im convinced none of you actually watch Romo play and just follow whatever narrative espn tells you.

We have Bortles for one more on the cheap (by QB standards).  I think you have to see what he can do with a NFL caliber coaching staff which hasn't been here since he's been here. All these other guys are stop gaps.  Romo has a year, two at the most and that's if his back doesn't completely break. Honestly he needs to retire before he's permanently disabled.  Tyrod Taylor is not a franchise QB..period.  Draft a QB in the mid rounds to see if he can become something and go after a FA next year if Bortles can't produce under a real staff.

If we are saying that any coach who has not coached us an entire season can't be our hc.  Then the same should apply to qbs. So Grop should be out. Based on that theory.  Since he has not played an entire season for the pats right?
