Kelvin Beachum roasts Gus, says its all about winning and nothing else.

Maybe he can stop giving away 5 penalties a game then. That would help.

This is the mindset we need. Not that BS Paul Posluszny spews week in and week out about how he loves the culture and Gus is so great. It's about winning. No more of this "just get better" mentality should be around.

Guy came off an ACL and had his ups and downs, but I fully expect the version I saw in Pittsburgh next year. With major injuries like this it's generally more of a 2 year thing than 1 for big guys like this. Alex Mack had a terrible season in Cleveland last year coming off surgery and now had one hell of a year in ATL after getting fully healthy

I'm just happy we got guys like Beachum, Malik, Ramsey, etc. in this locker room. We need more guys like this.

I totally know what you're saying about the year one - year two thing with ACLs. You see it all the time...

Year One - player is sub par of expectations

Year Two - breakout, come-back player of the year

Quote:Have you listened to a single one of his interviews? Of course he wants to win, as does every single player, doesn't mean you ever hear any fire about all the losing he has suffered. He never speaks up about it. He has always been a prime backer of Gus and keeping the atmosphere he had here which was obviously toxic. Multiple players, including Big Roy who seemed to like Gus, has said that the team has had a "lax" attitude. Yet, Paul Posluszny is at the front of the line in keeping this atmostphere here that has resulted in a 4 year record of the worst winning % of all time.

Not to mention Posluszny has never had ONE winning season in his career.

Poz' character is top of the line. Of course he's always been a prime backer of Gus because he's always going to be a prime backer of his head coach. That's what good football players do. Poz will always tow the company line, and that's why coaches love him. ...that, and because he's greek football god on the field.

I can agree with the Beachum quote regarding the next HC...

I hope to see somebody who believes winning is the only answer.

We need a locker room full of this mentality.
Only a chump boos the home team!

Jags locker room is slowly curing themselves of the loser mentality that Gus nurtured while he was here

OP I agree with the mentality of Kevin, but you're off the mark about Poz.

Looking forward to the D next year.......it's going to dominate.

Quote:He went out of his way in interviews saying its the players time to "keep the way this organization is being run the same way, it's a special type of atmosphere." I've heard him say it on multiple occasions. None of those interviews that I remember seeing did a reporter ask him what he thought of Gus. He said we need to start winning to keep the way things are being run in tact.

I'm sorry, but I can't get behind that. Not when it's obvious with the players speaking out about all the problems that were obviously in this organization. Not when there never seemed to be much of a "winning attitude" stemming from Gus. I mean good lord, Beachum said after last week that the biggest difference about Marrone compared to Gus is that Marrone preaches winning. Like good lord! "We need to keep this situation in tact, it's special that not many teams have." Yeah, I'd say so. Most coaches care about wins and losses. Not "just getting better."

I still don't get how FOUR YEARS in, people still don't understand Gus' philosophy. Maybe Gus didn't have the ability to enforce his philosophy, but there's nothing wrong with the mindset of "constantly getting better"

I ask for the many who keeps harping on this philosophy:

How do you achieve winning?

Poz will do everything in his power to win and should be commended for his desire.

That said, Poz is one of the most losing players in the history of the NFL (that played over 100 games) so he may have just got used to losing and has taken the high road to be a really good player, teammate, and community resident.

Repeatedly stating that you learned a lot from this weeks loss doesn't get it done. Taking a firm stand on changing what you do (mentally & strategically) to turn things around breeds winners.

Gus is a failure at HC. His philosophy did not work. End of Story.

From the player quotes I have seen, they want more structure and discipline. Especially the ones who played on other teams. They all seem to think it was a very lax atmosphere, and team rules were either very lax or not enforced. Eating during meetings? Sunglasses during meetings? I heard that and my jaw hit the floor.

Exactly. I heard an analogy that is applicable to Gus as follows: Your favorite teacher in high school most likely was your most lenient teacher. Your most respected teacher in high school was your most demanding teacher that your learned the most from.

I don't know what it means, either.

But I will say this: you play like you practice. A coach has to make practice as hard as possible, as stressful as possible, as strict and competitive as possible. A coach cannot tolerate mistakes in practice, because those mistakes will inevitably take place in the game on Sunday.

I went to Indiana during the Bobby Knight era, and the players all said, practice was so much harder than the games themselves. They could always execute successfully in the pressure of an NCAA tournament game, because practice was so pressurized, they were used to it. Now, Bobby Knight is an extreme example, but the principle holds.

Quote:I just don't think he wanted to stir the pot while Gus was coach. Nobody did. They're all talking NOW. I don't think it's in Poz's character to [NO SYNONYM?] talk anyone.
You're correct.

I bet the players had their own sprinkles jokes

And everyone used to say that the players LOVED playing for Gus.

Doesn't look like that's the case now does it? The players who have been the most vocal are the players who come from winning cultures. It's no surprised they don't respect a coach who clearly had no idea what he was doing.

It's probably true until you lose week after week then turn on the radio only to hear everyone stating this team sucks so bad.
