What scouts are saying about Teddy Bridgewater

Quote:All because we won two additional late season games that would surely change our culture for next season.

We need a culture change to really improve because if you don't play to win, you won't get better.

I'm still confuse.  How is an extra win or two very late into an already losing season will change the culture for the next season that is 7-8 months away?

Quote:How many of those were Bridgewater's (or better) level of prospect?
Several. Half of which lived up to the hype, and half of which that didn't.

Bridgewater, at this very moment, is a very good college QB. How he will translate to the NFL nobody knows. Those who think they do know for sure, one way or the other, are fooling themselves.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

I can only think of 10 from that list who were just as good a prospect (if not better) than Bridgewater.  And all of them have successes in the NFL.

What list are you referring to?

Here are the first round QBs taken since 2001.

EJ Manuel

Andrew Luck

Robert Griffin III

Ryan Tannehill

Brandon Weeden

Cam Newton

Jake Locker

Blaine Gabbert

Christian Ponder

Sam Bradford

Tim Tebow

Matthew Stafford

Mark Sanchez

Josh Freeman

Matt Ryan

Joe Flacco

JaMarcus Russell

Brady Quinn

Vince Young

Matt Leinart

Jay Cutler

Alex Smith

Aaron Rodgers

Jason Campbell

Eli Manning

Philip Rivers

Ben Roethlisberger

J.P. Losman

Carson Palmer

Byron Leftwich

Kyle Boller

Rex Grossman

David Carr

Joey Harrington

Patrick Ramsey

Michael Vick

This list proves two things: One, a being a first round drafted quarterback means exactly squat. Second, it means that the best guy doesn't always go first. History proves it. Someone who has half of a brain understands this. Those who think they're so smart that they already know what the future holds only prove how utterly stupid they really are.

So, essentially, you would rather let another team pick a quarterback ahead of you instead of getting to choose whichever one your scouting department will be the best pro?

If anyone watched that game last night and didn't come away with the impression that TB is going to be a stud NFL QB then I would be shocked. I posted this in another thread, but it is relevant here too....

We are going to have to hope that the texans want to bring in a veteran since their roster is already loaded up otherwise. theyre not in rebuilding mode. a rookie qb might cost them a couple years into the small window that roster has to make a run at the super bowl. free agents that might work would be cutler, vick, or a long shot with freeman. not too sure which qbs might be available for trade or cut though. (maybe Cousins or Mallett)

Also with how accurate Teddy is with the underneath stuff, and how quick he throws to where the WR is going to be on slants, I would be ecstatic having him throwing to Blackmon (if that dude can stay sober) it would be totally filthy.

Because winning is the only thing that matters. The more of it you do the better off you are, and next year's draft be damned. That's how your culture changes, by doing your best ALL the time. That's what Bradley preaches and if they didn't do it then the whole thing would be a fraud. And fraud coaches end up like Bobby Petrino or Steve Spurrier.

Try to keep up. I get annoyed when I have to repeatedly explain my position.

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

Keep up with what? You haven't explained anything in this thread. I think you've made three or four posts in it.

Getting second (or third, or fourth, or even tenth) pick of the litter is not historically the end of the world, but it makes no sense to act like your team's front office doesn't want to choose from every option instead of having a division rival get first dibs.

There is also nothing that says that Houston is in love with Teddy. Maybe they want to take him just based on value, if that was the case there is the possibility that they think a trade offer would provide more value and potentially the jaguars could toss a pick in to take that from the texans. There is still some hope for those, like myself who think it is Bridgewater and then everyone else.

Dakota is very simple minded when it comes to this.  He wants wins, period.  Simple and easy... and he definitely has a point.

My problem with his view is that he believes he's a better fan than other people that would today rather see us lose.

Many of the players on this team won't be on the roster next year.  I am going to cheer for the Jags, like I always do, but my brain tells me that a loss today (if we play well with the lack of talent we have anyway) is actually the perfect scenario.  It will allow us to pick higher in the draft which means we have more valuable draft picks.

Now, if we lose by 30, then yeah that sucks.  I want us to play well.  If our guys play so well that we win, that's great news!  Great news because our backups and other young players are actually playing well...  that's good news for us.

Trading up is still a dumb idea. Putting all your eggs in one basket doesnt help.

Even of he was the next Peyton Manning, you are doing the team a disservice by giving up valuable picks. We have too many holes to fill for us to just focus on QB. There will be other QBs available in the future. We need to build a strong team everywhere and let the chips fall where they may.

If Bill O'Brien takes that job, I'd be willing to bet he already knows what QB he is taking.

You wouldn't trade up for Peyton Manning? Seriously?

I know the Gabbert trade has some of you terrified of everything draft-related, but a Manning-level quarterback puts you in contention for the better part of 15 years. Those picks you're trading will be replenished in two or three years. That's an incredibly short-sighted mindset you're displaying.
