Bortles: "Olsen and House had different beliefs."

At least Bortles acknowledges he needs help. Wentz doesn't think he has a mechanical issue.

I thought Olsen was supposed to be some kind of QB guru?

Just like gus was a "defensive guru".....yeah right...  :whistling:

I mean, not sure who thought that. Josh Freeman I think had a decent year under him but severely regressed. Derek Carr blew up after Olsen left, etc.

He has worked with a lot of young QB's but didn't exactly do well. Think most just hoped for the best/acted optimistic because what can you do? lol.

Quote:You guys can hate the QBR stat all you want it still doesn't change the face Bortles still wasn't good in 2015. He's playing for a long-term 20/m yr contract next year. If we're serious about winning we'd move on.

Everyone not working for ESPN thinks it's garbage.

You relize not every QB is going to be prime Tom Brady, Arron Rogers, Drew Brees, Payton Manning right. Heck every one of those accept Brady were bad at one point.

Stafford has had a lot of bad seasons. Matt Ryan was really bad last year.

Cam Newton this year.

Your saying you wouldn't take 4700 total yards and 35 TD every single season? If Bortles did that we'd all be happy except for those that complain just to complain.

It was being "hoped for" by fans, and touted as truth by jaguars.com  -   because he got a 4000 yard year out of Bulger, helped Freeman to one productive year and guided Carr through a solid rookie campaign.

Playing QB is much more than empty stats.

2015 was better for him than 2016 and by some measures he was good, but Bortles' flaws as a QB were still there to see by anyone paying attention. He still had the pick 6s and the horrible interceptions deep in our own territory. And he was still largely responsible for at least a few of the losses. His 2015 season is too often held up as some kind of gold standard or proof which it really isn't. That being said, help probably isn't on the way in 2017 so he'll be in a prove it year or should be (as we shouldn't be picking up that 5th year option) and we should probably franchise him unless we see a repeat of this past season or worse. At that point it would be time to part ways.

Yes, no one is saying he is top 3-5 (like those stats would say if we just went by those). But to say he is in the bottom 8? Get out of here. Watching games he looked very solid to me as most people thought too.

This past offseason there were questions who was better long term between Bortles and Carr. Like come on.

A 2nd year QB still had flaws? News breaking...

Bortles will always have flaws. That doesn't mean the guy wasn't very solid last season and had a lot of qualities you look for in a franchise QB. So he throws some interceptions? Who cares if he's also making plenty of plays as well.

After last season, Bortles most definitely looked like a franchise QB. Not to mention he was forced to do WAY more than any young QB should. The OL was absolute garbage (was his rookie year too), we had no run game. The defense was constantly letting the offense do whatever they wanted. You think that's a good environment for a young QB? Of course he's going to take too many risky throws.

To piggy back off this. You know how may seasons Favre threw less then 15 INT 5 times in his 20 years of playing, yet he still had 2 super bowl rings and that was before it was the pass happy league it is now.

If Bortles sucks next season as much as this one then send him packing but there is no one in the draft or free agency that is going to be better.

I honestly don't know if Blake can be fixed.  Hope he can.  Still would like a quality vet brought in.  Not the chad.
