I don't have time to read 49 pages...who has actually been interviewed other than Coughlin?
"History has demonstrated that the most notable winners usually encountered heartbreaking obstacles before they triumphed."

Part of me is also rooting for Marrone because he got a bum rap after his stint with Buffalo and it seems pretty exaggerated and skewed. From everything I have read about him he is a good guy who loves the game and the redemption story is always a good one to be a part of.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
This is fun. Paging through all the posts that say " I really feel" or the definitive statements like "We're sure to go 6-10 if you hire ..."
Highly amusing. Small things amuse small minds. Quote:I wouldnt say bonheaded with Mike Smith but just not with this team needs. His playoff record speaks for itself. He also had a stacked team. Hes not going to have a Matt Ryan here. We need a offensive coach. Why do we need an 'offensive coach'? They have this position called offensive coordinator. ![]() Quote:Why do we need an 'offensive coach'? They have this position called offensive coordinator. Because math! Offensive Head Coach + Offensive Coordinator = 2x the Offense! See?! Science!
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

The sun's not yellow, it's chicken.
Quote:I can barely see yours. I think your thinking of what your gf says to you. Quote:Okay...well arguing we need an offensive coach is different from classifying a Smith hire as "boneheaded" or even "average." My main concerns with Smith are pretty straight forward. When he was here, it was widely suggested that he was pretty laid back, and more of a players coach. With this team, we need someone who is going to be more disciplined and less buddy buddy with the players. Did he fit that more structured, disciplined mold in Atlanta? The other concern is who he brings in as his offensive coordinator. He isn't the sexy hire because he's a defensive guy. He's going to need to nail it with the OC hire to get fans excited. Regarding Shanahan, it sounds like he covets the Denver gig. I'm not sure I would want another coordinator on the rise in his first head coaching gig, so I'm hoping Denver does us a favor and takes him out of the equation. I'm not a fan of McDaniels either. Same with Patricia. Both are products of the system their boss has in place. McDaniels benefits greatly from coaching one of the best to ever play QB. Patricia is basically calling the plays Belichick has drawn up. I don't trust that either would be successful away from Belichick. I see Mike Smith as the safe pick. I'd be okay if we somehow landed Shanahan. I'd be disappointed if the team went with any Patriot coordinator. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:So who do you like then? Coughlin, but that's not happening. I'd be fine with Smith, although it would almost feel like a fallback hire. Never argue with idiots. Mike Smith is a laid back players coach, tell me where you heard that before. No coordinator on this team should be kept as well. Coughlin is what this team needs. A laid back coach doesn't get a locker room focused like that. A job as a DC and a HC is different. If you think he runs things the same way in both gigs you're crazy.
I actually really like the idea of hiring Mike Smith. He has proven he can win games as a coach. The playoff record isn't ideal, but 5 games is such a small sample size. Anything can happen in the playoffs, and the Falcons lost to some pretty good teams when Smith was coach.
Forget worrying if the next coach can bring us to the Super Bowl. This franchise is in a whole different universe than the Big Game. 15 wins in 4 years, and some of us are worried about a deep playoff run? LOL.

Blake Bortles......YOU'RE FIRED! Dave Caldwell.....YOU'RE FIRED! Quote:We finally agree. Mike Smith is a laid back players coach, tell me where you heard that before. No coordinator on this team should be kept as well. Where have I heard that before? I watched it during his tenure here. I didn't need to hear it from anyone. New coach will bring in his own staff. I don't expect anyone from the current staff to be carried over. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm not saying he runs things the same, but coordinators who ascend to head coaching positions don't normally deviate from what got them to this point since it appears to have worked for them. Gus was a players coach. So was Del Rio. When Jack attempted to deviate from that, the results were terrible. Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I know it could seem like a fallback hire but he might not be around long enough to be a fallback. If they like him, they need to make him the coach because other teams have interest, Quote:I'm not saying he runs things the same, but coordinators who ascend to head coaching positions don't normally deviate from what got them to this point since it appears to have worked for them. He turned them from 4-12 to 11-5 with everything that was happening. |
