Quote:No way. We need to take Dalvin Cook with the 4th pick. i don't care what they say about taking RBs at the top of the draft. He is elite and could overcome some of the weaknesses with the OL. The FSU line was so bad they almost got Francois killed this year and Cook shattered records in spite of how bad they were.

Cook was able to get the edge and outrun the SEC defenders. Harder to do that in NFL. He can, but it would be mistake to think he alone could overcome the poor running blocking the Jags have had for years.

Quote:This is a deep RB class. True, I want D'Onta Foreman badly and I'm almost positive he'll go in round 1, but I also really like several other RB's like Samaje Perine and he could be had in the 2nd or 3rd round. If Perine stays healthy, I think he can be a star.
can you show me some clips of Foreman using his 250 lbs being physical and running some people over?

No we are not set at the RB position but I am more worried about the O-line woes...

No RB can be productive if he is getting slammed 3 yards behind the LOS.

"Are we set at the running back position?"

No

Robinson will leave as a FA

Ivory isn't getting any younger

Yeldon isn't the answer

The team needs to add a FB

I'd be willing to move back into the late 1st for Foreman

Edit

I was mistaken

find a way to get both Cooks and McCaffrey, sign FB Zach Line Let Denard and Yeldon go. This offense would take off, Especially with a fullback. McCaffrey is so Versatile and he can catch out of the backfield

This running back class is like the 2014 WR class tons of talent 3 or 4 rounds deep.

bro I'm sooooo with u! As an uf fan he made my life hell. I don't care if it's early, he is a stud and a game changer, he won't make it out the 1st rd. In my opinion he is most well rounded back in the class.

We not looking for him to do this alone. Hell its year 5 in Caldwell rebuild you would think he would have a establish line by now.. The jags need a home run back that can break one every now and then.. Hell I can only name 2 big runs all year.. Ivory big gain and Grant run a week ago.. If Caldwell had been drafting olineman in the draft instead of dlineman we might have something by now.. But he takes a Sheldon Day in the 4th instead smh..

And yet the bucs don't regret taking Evans, the Giants don't regret taking Beckham.... the bills may regret the Sammy Watkins pick because he's injury prone and has been used wrong.

Quote:I agree. I don't care how good a RB is he will not be successful without a good line. Why is Elliot so good.....because he has an outstanding offensive line.
Cook and his stats would argue that there are exceptions to this rule.

His o line graded out at like #127 last year and he absolutely tore it up.

1700 yards man.

In comparison...

A line ranked #127 in college might be like being ranked #25 in NFL out of 32.

Cook imho would continue to produce regardless of the quality of our line.

Again...He is the exception to the rule that a RB is only as good as the line he runs behind.

Go watch his highlight's.

You'll see what happens when there are absolutely no holes for him to run through.

He makes one.

He demolishes the first guy to him.

Makes multiple people miss while accelerating past them.

No sideways jukes like yeldon.

No putting his head down and plowing into a guy like ivory when there's no holes.

I'm telling you...

Watch his highlight's
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zLRKVVqxQJA

Watch to the end.

Several times he's in a tight squeeze at the line.

He even runs his own guy over.

He consistently breaks arm tackles.

Has blazing break away speed

Power

Elusiveness

And he gives credit to his o line.

Watch him man...

This guy would have been a 1000 yard back for us.

Now...

Spell him with Corey Grant?

Ivory and yeldon look silly on the bench. Period

Fair point. I'd say its easier to find a star running back in the 3rd/2nd than a star WR though.

Right.

Seems like a good wr is either top 10 draft...Or undrafted gem

I don't know why everyone is afraid to take Cook. The whole argument about the offensive line being weak in run blocking may not even hold much water now when you go back and look at the numbers once Olson was fired and Hackett took over the play calling.

With Olson: 508 yards on the ground with 2 100+ yard games through seven games

With Hackett: 1,123 yards on the ground with 1 200+ yard game, 3 100+ yard games and only one game with less than 80 yards on the ground through nine games

And Hackett was able to pull that off with a weaker starting offensive line at the time between the injuries occurring in the interior line and against much stouter defenses having played the houston tinhorns twice, Denver, Minnesota and Kansas CIty.

Cook shouldn't be out of the discussion if the best available defenders are off the board. Again, he may end up being the BAP on our board in a few months. Recent years with guys like Gurley and Elliot cracking the top ten. And with Gordon showing he was worth the top 15 or top 20 investment the Chargers made in him.

The RB value is going back up in the NFL. Bortles could use all the help he can get in 2017 if we can't flat out replace him. Cook is being compared to guys like Chris Johnson / Clinton Portis. Fournette is being compared to guys like Adrian Peterson. I wouldn't be shocked at all if both of them go inside the top 10.

Seems like that anyway Dez,ODB,Green, Evans,Julio, Amari Cooper are all 1st rounders where as David Johnson, Bell, Freeman, Jordan Howard, Jay Ajayi, Blount, etc etc are all 2nd or later.

I'm always very trepidacious about taking RBs early as most drafts produce quality backs in the mid rounds, but if Dave can manage to address O-Line and SS after taking the risk of an early RB pick this year, I'll be onboard.

I'd prefer Allen in the first round if he's there, but I'm unusually not adverse to a 1st round RB this year.

I actually think Ivory and Yeldon can produce with better blocking.

But nowadays it's unusual for teams to reach the postseason without need for utilizing depth at RB due to injury. So having a stud rookie in the mix is warranted no matter one's opinion of the current RB corps.

I'd prefer Cook in this scenario.
