Marrone new HC

Quote:@buckybrooks JAX is absolutely doubling down on Bortles. GM & HC married to the QB... Lots of pressure on 2014 No.3 overall pick to bounce back

I thought Dave said nobody was untouchable.

Unless someone was willing to take the hit to get a HC job which Marrone seems to be willing to do.

<p style="font-size:26px;">This feels like doubling down on the Bortles/Caldwell era. And if that doesn’t work, Coughlin calls the shots next time

But again, why?  If we all know that this is a lame duck season that is up coming, why the heck go through with it?

Mike Smith, a HC that was not just a mediocre HC, but one that was winning his division is out there to be hired on.  Instead, you keep a hanger on from the old regime that has a mediocre stint in Buffalo???  I mean, really?

Instead, we're gonna kill yet another season to verify that the remnants of Gus Bradley's garbage coaching staff was also bad?  And then what?  Hope that a 71 year old Coughlin (who will be yet another year out of coaching and another year older) will take over?  Or see if there is another quality HC that got fired?  Or gamble on an up and coming OC or DC?

We had Mike Smith right there.  And the dude was a former DC here in Jacksonville as well...

It's just really bad planning.

I wonder if Tony Khan and his daddy saw that .gif of Mike Smith picking his nose and decided they didn't want him here because of all the jokes that would be made about it.  That's how much of a head scratcher this hire is.

The guy could have been given a tryout after week two, or after the thursday night Tack beat down if they wanted to really give him a shot.  This hire just seems so lazy.  So un-inspired.  So mediocre.  Just plugging holes in the damn,  Not fixing anything.

It's a bad look for the owner and the front office as a whole.

Quote:Tom Coughlin has never traded down, he ain't gonna start now.

But I would think he would trade down to accumulate more picks for the future. We might not be able to retain some of the players we want to if Marrone and Caldwell gets fired. Things would completely change. We need more draft picks just incase the front office starts to change after this season. If not I'm still BAP at 4.

@alexmarvez Not sure if out there but I'm told @Jaguars keeping DC Todd Wash & LBs coach Robert Saleh from current staff. Maybe others as well @sn_nfl

Coughlin's future is now. He's 70 years old. Keep that in mind.

@DraftCampbell #Jaguars hiring Doug Marrone is another mistake. Sources tell me he was a negative presence & undermined Gus Bradley cuz he wanted HC job.

The next question would be will the Jaguars keep the current Defensive Scheme in place?   It seems like a very realistic possibility.

Told y'all Bklyn's meltdown would be glorious if Marrone was hired. Hope y'all got the popcorn out!

   Probably.

If the scheme is going to change dramatically,  why keep the current D-Coordinator?

Quote:Of course they were influenced by the offense. Every defense is to some degree. Point being when you add all of it together, as a whole the defense was average.
Another one. 8th in first downs given up per game. Pretty impressive stat considering the little help from the offensive side of the ball

This wasn't an average defense. This was a newly assembled defense that got off to a slow start, but once it started to gel it was one of the most formidable in the league.

Wow
I wouldn't read much into this because it could simply mean he wanted Gus to be more stern and he didn't want to

As long as he fires the special teams coach I'll be good.
