McDaniel, understandable. Plus, he won't be available until February.

Shanahan, gotta be something about his personality that is scaring teams away.

I can't blame them. That stock photo of him with the Texans that PFT keeps putting up. Hes like the spitting image of Gus (behaviorally, obviously the prototypes are different). The guy sounds just like Gus. And he didn't even coach a good defense (last year) or a secondary with the Texans (were ranked near last in the league when he was there). I saw a comment from a fins fan saying how guys would 'play their heart out for him!' and I nearly laughed. He is Gus, with even less results, but still got the talk.

His dolphins defense had no talented veterans outside of suh and wake and kiko kinda but hes not even good. He had a 15th ranked pass defense with one decent safety, a rookie, byron maxwell, and another rookie corner who converted from being a receiver along with no linebackers to speak of. And the entire Bengals secondary he coached the year prior has regressed since he left as well. Getting a 15th rank out of that group is way more than Gus ever did so lets not compare coaches off of their press conferences any more since it doesnt actually mean anything.

Gus had a top 3 ranked D. That's a lot better than 15th. Hes Gus, all positive energy, but with worse results. Maybe he will be a better head coach. But I wouldn't put any money on it.

Gus had more than 2 good established players on his defense lol the personnel isnt even comparable. And what are you basing this off of? press conferences? what would you prefer, he breaks down schemes mid presser lol. Spare me the press conference scouting

You know the good coaches are quiet and cynical and break down schemes in press conference and say the word win atleast 10 times in half hour intervals

How much of a jerk must Tod Haley be, to not even get an interview while running one of the NFL's best offenses?

Same kind of thing happened to Marrone after he left Buffalo.

Haley will get another shot soon.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I was basing it off of A. What they did as coordinators (i.e. ranks, performance of their units), B. What kind of comments are made about them 'i.e. Great motivator, guys will play their hearts out for him.' And C. That photo above. Don't tell me he doesn't remind you of Gus. Lots of good comments, but minimal results IS the Gus playbook.

Also anyone who doesn't want Wade Philips as a D-coordinator, especially after his last 2 years on the Broncos, is an idiot. Pure and simple.

Well we already went over A, if you think having a successful secondary with the bengals then keeping the dolphins from being the defensive disaster they absolutely should have been isnt good enough im not sure what to tell you. You can spare me the ranks if youre not going to include an ounce of context.

B is irrelevant cause youre just cherry picking a couple quotes to fit a a very singular narrative that hes just a players best friend even though theres quotes from players and coaches painting him as someone proficient at a lot of things coaches need to do to be successful. And C is hopefully a joke, because if youre actually basing your evaluation on a still image your evaluation means nothing.

And that last part definitely isnt true either. In what world does believing you can get something done on your own make you an idiot?

And again, theres nothing wrong with having players like you. This idea that because Gus was too friendly with players any other coach whos players like him must be bad isnt a very intelligent thought.

I'm not a big fan of it,think it's the 2nd worst HC hire of the offseason. He did get Mccoy which will help Lynch alot but why as a first time coach get rid of 2 guys in Wade/Joe who are elite coordinators? If it wasn't his choice what does that tell you about other coaches opinions of him?

Looks like he could be Geno Smith's older brother.
