I dont know what else to tell you. Thats 4 links from NFL.com, Yahoo, NBC, NFL.com and Profootballtalk. 

 

Yes, Caldwell will work with Coughlin, but Tom Coughlin is the head of anything football related. If its football related, the final say is Tom Coughlin. If it comes down to a player in the draft? Coughlin has the final say, if Coughlin wants to sign or rising a certain player, Coughlin has the final say, if he wants to cut somebody, Coughlin has the final say. Heck, hes involved in the assistant coaching search ( kinda disagree with this), hes already rejected Marrone from signing a couple of coaches. 

 

This is the Tom Coughlin era as of Monday. Its his team, he has the final say. You are scapegoating Caldwell hard. Your acting like Caldwell has nothing to do with 14-48. We went 14-48 and hes had a ton of question marks from his decision making. You want to rip Coughlin for his drafts, well, we never went 14-48 under his helm.  I get it, you like Caldwell, I actually like him and the team likes him which is why he is around. But yes, this is the Tom Coughlin era and yes, he essentially is the boss now. 

 

Hes not a consultant, hes not Khans golfing buddy who pops his head in from time to time and gives him an opinion of the team. Hes making the decisions, hes drafting, hes doing FA, hes assembling the roster. Hes the VP Of Football Operations. Caldwell works right under him, both will work together, but Coughlin has the final say.

Looks like to me that Khan by hiring TC is stepping back and getting a professional run football operations.

Much like he did by hiring Lamping to run the business side.

This is a very,very smart move by Khan and going to produce some good football in the future.

Think you jumped the gun with this title, Caldwell is very much the gM.

I agree! I think Mr Khan is ever so slowly turning over the day to day operational control of the organization to more experienced people...Maybe He's tired of working everyday and wants free time to travel and spend some of the money he made or just not have to work everyday...He is getting older and I wouldn't blame him if he eventually wanted the CEO role with a COO to run the day to day operations but still have the final say in everything...I wouldn't want to work every single day of my life and not enjoy the time I have left on this earth with billions of dollars in my bank account...

 

My personal idealism if I was in his shoes would be...Players play, Coaches coach, Managers manage, Execs run the organization, Owners write checks...If I had to step in, someones not doing their job and I don't need them

Caldwell is still the G.M.

They've just added another branch to the tree.

This could actually really help Dave in the long run.

If this team can turn things around and be successful over the next three years here's what I see happening.

Coughlin retires and Caldwell is either promoted and hires a new G.M. or is promoted and handles all the

duties again.

Less on his plate now along with a 2 time SB winning coach/GM over him can only help to increase discipline and

hopefully winning......which in turn will help Caldwell in the long run.

One of these guys is still very young and the other is in his last NFL job.

There are a couple people here that want to be so right that Coughlin is the figure head and everything flows through him that they aren't able to see the forest through the trees.  There is still a team dynamic to the front office.  Dave is still going to be the GM and is still going to do his thing.  When the important decisions like getting free agents and drafting comes, this will be collaborative, like it was before Coughlin ever got here.  Luckily we have a seasoned guy with lots of experience to add eyes to the situation.

It's like you hear things and then decide what you think they mean instead of their actual meaning. 

 

It's not just "by title."  Dave Caldwell shows up for work and does the exact same job he's done for the past several years.  No different. 

 

In the unlikely event that the Marrone, Caldwell and Coughlin are of differing opinions on a personnel move, Coughlin would "break the tie" in that particular situation. That doesn't change the work that Caldwell does every day. It simply installs a system of checks and balances that did not exist prior to Coughlin's hiring. 

 

You are trying to make way too much of this "running the show" business.

How is he delusional? Sure David Caldwell still has the title of "General Manager", but he's had a significant amount of power taken away, given the fact that Tom Couglin has the final say over the 53 man roster. According to Ryan O, Coughlin will have the final say on "everything", which means the draft, free agency, trades etc...he already blocked the hiring of a special teams coach from Buffalo, what more do you guys need to see? David might be the "GM" by Couglin wields the power, that's what PWM is trying to relate to you guys, it's incredibly obvious and not that difficult to comprehend.

Nobody is arguing the point that he has final say, but Coughlin isn't sitting there doing all of this on his own.  Caldwell is still the GM and Marrone is the head coach.  Just because they report to a guy doesn't mean they don't do their jobs anymore.

 

I can report to my manager all day long, but it doesn't stop me from making big decisions every day.

Just as Khan would have the final say before TC signed on. 

TC is basically taking Khan's place so he doesn't have to worry with the day to day of overseeing football operations. Khan is trusting TC to make those decisions for him.

Makes perfect sense.

The only delusional person here is you for thinking Caldwell is just going to go back to business as usual. Coughlin has the final say, end of discussion. He will work with Caldwell but has final say, every news media outlet has reported this and its came from the words of Shad Khan. If you cant see there was a changing of the guard, I cant help you. If you truly think Caldwell is still in charge, I cant help you. Caldwell isnt doing the job he once did, thats a fact. He essentially got demoted. Hes going to be right there with Coughlin but Coughlin will have the final say. 

 

Who said that Caldwell wont be working with Coughlin? Not me, all I said was, Coughlin as the final say. Coughlin is essentially the GM. There were changes that happened, the still like Caldwell, and if the team turns around, its not like Coughlin is going to be here that long. Dave will have the final say again when Coughlin steps down, thats if the team doesnt implode again.

Thank you. Im really not making this an opinion. People are literally denying facts. Tom is the football operations, Dave essentially got demoted so essentially Dave isnt your GM anymore, though by title he is.
