3rd overall pick

Sure it does. The Rams have the same front office staff, head coach, etc. they did last year. So what they did last year can give you an idea of how stupid they will be this year.

Now I am laughing at this 2 picks only nonsense.

It's comical.

You make a good point, although the last 3 OROY's were QBs who were picked 1st or 2nd.

Pick #3 is a good spot to be IMO. There are more than just 2 good players in this draft as some would believe and we have enough needs where we can easily fill one with an impact player at #3. We also have a bunch of cap space so we can make some moves in FA.

Quote:So you don't think Luck is that good?? I think Luck is very good and will only get better as he gets more experience. He got drafted by a 2-14 team and took them to the playoffs in his 1st year and is going again in his 2nd year, that's pretty darn good to me.

Is he elite?? Well that depends on your definition of elite. While I consider him very very good, I don't consider him elite yet, although of all the QB's taken in the last several drafts I consider Luck with the most potential to become an elite QB.

Is he Peyton Manning back there?? NO, but then again, there is only one PM. I'm glad he isn't PM, because that guy just owned the division.

I have a question for you if you don't think he's anything special. Would you take him on the Jags??

I just spent the majority of my post saying that luck is good.  But he's not elite.  He needs players around him to excel.  If he doesn't, he's an Eli or Romo type QB.  He'll get you points in fantasy, but he's not gonna get you a SB unless the rest of the team around him is also good.

And compared to who we have at QB right now, of course I would take Luck.  I would also take Eli, Romo, Rivers, Alex Smith, Wilson, Kapernick, and a bunch of other good QB's over who we have behind center right now.

That's not the point.  The point is that the caveman is beatable.  He's good, but he's not elite.  We shouldn't fear good QB's, unless the rest of the team that is around the QB is also very good.  Otherwise, we can continue this rebuild and be contenders.  We just need a good QB or our own...

The Rams traded down last year because they thought they could collect more picks and still draft Justin Blackmon and Tampa Bay screwed them over by trading peanuts with the Jaguars to switch spots.

Also the upcoming NFL draft isn't this year. Isn't that the same mistake you passively called me an idiot for in another thread?

I don't know that any QB besides Teddy is worth taking at #3, and I'm not sure about the guys who'll be available in the 2nd round so I'm a bit concerned about the QB situation. It's nice that we're guaranteed Teddy, Clowney or Barr but best case scenario hands down is Teddy falls to us. Either way, with all our picks and the money we have to spend we should see a much better team out there next season. Whether that amounts to many more wins depends on the QB though IMO.

Quote:I would not put Mack, Matthews or Barr in the level of player of Clowney or Bridgewater.

I know Clowney had a season where effort lacked. But the assumption is that Clowney pretty much mailed it in because he did not want to get hurt and ruin his draft stock.

Clowney's ability is off the charts. His ceiling towers over Mack or Barr.

My questions to you are.... Do you think Barr can be an every down DE? He plays OLB at UCLA. Do you pick a passing down DE that high?

would he fit the LEO?

If Barr is projected as a perennial All-pro, which some football people do....then I'd say a perennial all pro at a premium position is worth a selection at 3.

He not only is very talented, gifted, but also has a passion for the game, and is a leader thats missing on the D.

It seems in less than a week's time, you lost your enthusiasm over Barr.

Granted, you could still think that highly of Barr and stil think Clowney's talent is superior to Barr's, but now that the team is in position to get Barr, you seem disappointed.

There are a lot of tackle hungry teams so I don't rams trade down, unless it's a monster of picks. Just my thoughts!

I also dont think the other QBs that arent named Bridgewater are good enough to be drafted at 3. I expect us to take whoever is left out of Bridgewater, Clowney and Barr then see who is available at the top of the second. Lots of teams need Qbs this year, so there will be some over reaching, which I hope we dont fall into unless its extremely beneficial to us.

Personally not sold on Manziel anyway, and lucky he wont be there at the top of the second. Boyd will most likely be the best value option available in the 3rd of 4th. Anyone is going to be better than Henne/Gabbert

We have so much cap room this offseason (which we need to spend alot of if I understand correctly) so I expect alot of the holes to be filled in Free Agency.

It also seems to make the tacit argument that if you aren't OROY or DROY, you aren't a good player.

Troy Aikman was not named OROY, and he wound up pretty good.

Bruce Smith was not named DROY.  BTW, he was pretty good too.

Also...

five of the last seven OROY were taken in the top 2-3 picks, and two out of the last three DROY were top 2-3 picks.

What prevents the Jags from trading #3 to a team that wants Matthews if the Rams do trade for someone wanting Clowney/Bridgewater.

What is the talent gap between Matthews as it compares to other OTs in this year's draft?

Pick #3 could be a valuable trade pick if it goes Bridgewater/Clowney...

Is Barr seen as the last premium pass rusher or is Matthews the must have LT...Rams could get screwed again by trading back which is why I think they will go Matthews @ #2 leaving Clowney or Bridgewater there at 3.

Id take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd no higher. Even Bortles and Carr....no thanks at 3.

I know nothing about Matthews and Barr, but I do know the Falcons need a left tackle and have the #6 pick. We can trade down three spots and let them pick Matthews if the Texans pick Bridgewater. But would it be smart to trade out of the top five?

What I am worried about is the Browns trading up with the Rams to jump over us. They have extra picks to do it.

I just say if the rams trade down we pick Matthews and teach those [BLEEP] a lesson!

They traded down to #6 thinking Justin Blackmon would still be available, obviously not considering the possibility we could trade with the Buccaneers.
