Chip Kelly interviewing as OC

Quote:That's not evidence of that.  There's a lot of other factors.  Injuries, personnel lost, etc
The 49ers started maybe 2 players on offense who would start for someone else. Hyde and Staley. Other than that, their offense was putrid.

Chip also might not be running the exact offense he ran in Philly. My guess is that he and Marrone are going to come up with something on together. It's the same thing with Wash. Wash won't be running the defense he ran last year and Kelly won't be running his own offense.

Blake would probably do pretty well in Chip Kelly's "Hurry Up" offense because he does pretty well in a 2 minute offense scenario...right up until the point where he throws a pick 6.

I'm excited for this. Let's swing for the fences.

Agreed, 49ers had hardly any talent, particularly at QB and WR, which is going to hamstring any offense.

Quote:I hate it because he won't fix Blake. Chip Kelley needs a guy like Gabbert to drop back, turn around and immediately throw the ball. That's not Blake. Blake is about buying time either in the pocket or by escaping outside so plays can develop. We need an OC that can fit Blake's skill-set, and Chip Kelly doesn't do that at all. If Chip gets hired, we need to start looking for a new QB.

Quote:Tis true. I wanted McCoy but figured we wouldn't get him. Otherwise, I was confused as to who our guy might be. I think we have the players to make Chip's offense successful, but I don't think it's a playoff offense. I want a true pro style offense back in Jacksonville, and would prefer not to go to a hurry up, spread offense. I would take Norv's complex pro style offense over Chip's, but I'm not completely opposed to Chip. As long as he makes adjustments to the system.

Yay, we gonna get a LEO/OTTO/SLOTTO scheme for our offense now. Hooray.

I would think the chances are pretty high. There were reports that Chip seems to think he already has the job and has already reached out to guys about being on the staff. We also just hired his OL coach from last season.

Is this true?

I wasn't nervous about any of the changes until this....

I have faith in the big boys making good decisions....

But if this happens...I'll be nervous...

And I bet so will our entire offense

Something to be thought about here is that, almost by default, it won't be "Kelly's Offense" if he comes here. Sure, he may bring in a WR Coach or something like that, but Marrone has already hired his OL Coach, his RB Coach, retained Hackett and will most likely be sitting in on the Offensive Gameplan meetings due to his familiarity with the O Line anyway.

Kelly was the voice in the room at both Philadelphia and San Francisco, not to mention Oregon. As OC, that's not the case any more. He'll get feedback from the other people in the room and while he might swing more weight than a position coach, I would like to think that a teamwork factor would eliminate the "predictabilities" in his Offensive plans.

I think the man has talent as a football mind, but he needs to not be the biggest fish in the pond. I think he'd be a good addition here.

I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

Hopefully Kelly wins a power struggle and Caldwell gets kicked to the curb and Kelly becomes GM.

After the " Gus bus".

I'm down for anything.

Especially a scheme that should play to Blake's strengths like chips.

I think the best thing for Blake is a run game that sets up play action on intermediate routes downfield.

Not a spread that requires accuracy on short timing routes.

His accuracy on such passes has always been poor and I predict he'd struggle early on and leave his defense on the field far too long.

How many times in three years have you seen Blake's timing and placement on a simple swing pass leave the RB or receiver in poor position to gain yardage?  It's an alarmingly high number to be considering an offense predicated on lots of quick horizontal passes.

If they are bringing in Kelly and not adjusting his scheme significantly, I don't think it bodes well for Blake at all.

Let's be honest here; can't be any worse than what we previously had..... And there's no guarantee with Hackett bringing anything better either. If TC wants him and thinks it's a good move, who are we to think otherwise?....

As one of Blakes harshest critics this past season, I just have a feeling hes going to (successfully) overhaul his mechanics this off season, which will lead to improved accuracy at all levels of the field. I think this past year really stung him and he'll do whatever it takes to become a viable starting QB this level. Also, while accuracy is important in any scheme, the WR's in Chips scheme are often wide open due to the effectiveness of the run game, tempo, and overall deception of the offense, I don't think we'all see too many "tight window" type throws, i think Blake (assuming he's able to overall his mechanics) is a nice fit for this system.
