Daniel Jeremiah's Top 50

Quote:Allen would also be a really good 3-4 end. Maybe even better there than a 4-3 DT.

If I had my pick of the litter I'd take in order

Garrett

Allen

Adams

Fournette

Doesn't a 3-4 end need to be tall/long/big? I feel that allens size, combined with his not-so-elite athleticism, makes him a 4-3 DT only or a big end in running situations

Why do we think he isn't going to have good athleticism? I think he looks like he's going to have good athleticism for his density. Especially 3 cone, he has some clips where he shows really nice bend and burst for his weight.

Wouldn't surprise me too much if he beats Fowler's 3 cone at ~290 lbs.

im sure he will have decent athleticism but we are talking about picking 4th overall. I don't think he's going to do anything elite in any drill to be honest. He looks good,solid, but not great or elite. He never has been an elite prospect - otherwise he would've came out last year after his junior year. He helped himself out by coming back and playing well, kind of like how Damarcus Walker will get drafted much higher now than he would have in 2016.

Hes no warren sapp or Aaron Donald from the inside.

It's another case of an Alabama player getting overrated IMO. I'm being completely honest - but how much better will he be than our own Tyson Alualu? Alualu in college to me looked more sudden and quite similar. When you look at Allen, the vast majority of his big plays are with the pocket completely messed up because of the fact that Alabama got pressure from both sides and inside. Allen also was very underwhelming against Clemson. I'm open to be proven otherwise, but I honestly don't see it with Allen.

I've said on here many times how freakish athletic Alualu was. His jumps and 3 cone were just off the charts. If he didn't tear up his knee in the oklahoma drill against Manuwai and then try to rest and rehab for two years instead of getting the surgery he needed we might be telling a completely different story about Tyson. If you aren't taking guys high because they don't look more athletic than Alualu did in college than you aren't drafting virtually anyone.

I am starting to sour some on Allen too, but it's because I keep reading more rumors that teams are worried about his two previous shoulder surgeries and possible need for a third already. On the field I think Allen is about as bulletproof as it gets.

Quote:Hooker at 2 is interesting. He says he's one of the best college safeties he's ever seen. I agree he can be special and I think the whole tackling thing can be corrected. I don't know about Lattimore, but any of the other top 5/6 guys on that list would be a homerun pick at #4 IMO.

If the Chiefs lose Berry, I could see them taking him in round 1. If they retain Berry, Peppers could be in for quite a fall.

He was never a good prospect. Just a good college player that can be a freak in the wierd terribleness of college football.

ask someone to show you 5 plays that show he is a first round player that arent kick returns and get ready to wait

<p style="font-size:16px;">

<p style="font-size:16px;">

<p style="font-size:16px;">

<p style="font-size:16px;">

That really encapsulates his draft stock. Parse through the special teams plays and he just isn't that...special.

Pretty much. All he can do is tackle. Hes too small to play linebacker, he cant cover for [BLEEP] so hes not a safety. Only casual sports fans think hes a legit nfl guy cause they see him on sportscenter. He doesnt actually have any skills.

I could see the BB drafting Peppers in the 1st if he falls that far and Bill turning him into an all pro

safety, LB, and kick returner.  Knowing Bill he would probably play some offense as well.  I think he can be a good safety though.

His 40 time will depend on where he is drafted.  He is underrated in pass coverage imo

At first he was overrated as a prospect but now its looking like people are starting to underrate him imo.  Kiper did mock him to go to Bal. with the 16th pick though

He can be a good returner but I don't see him as a good LB or safety at the next level.

The playing on offense thing is more of a gimmick Michigan used because their offense was so anemic. You could put lots of top end college DBs and small LBs on offense in college and they would have similar production.

In passing downs I could see teams playing Peppers at LB and matching him up on TE and RB.  He covered WR's in college. I disagree that you could put any top end DB a small LB on offense in college and they would have similar production, teams would do it if they could. It isn't pro where they are so worried about the players getting injured.  Peppers could probably play RB in the NFL if he wanted to and be good at it.  He has great vision, speed, cut back ability, and can probably catch.  Look at Ty Montgomery in GB.  I think Peppers will make a reallly good SS though and the kick and punt return ability is a plus.  I highly doudt he falls to the 2nd but Jack did last year and if Peppers did this year and we didn't draft a safety in the first I wouldn't think twice about drafting him.

Ty Montgomery was one of the best return guys to come out of the draft a few years ago which that vision, speed, cut ability, and acceleration is what has gave him the ability to become a good RB for the Packers.  Its the same things Peppers has, you cant just stick any guy back there and them play the RB position like they do lol.  Look at Myles Jack.

No he isnt lol. Bill is a good coach but hes not just magically making a guy good at a position he has no discernible skills in.

Peppers will be a good safety, he can tackle and he isnt bad in coverage
