Boselli a HOF finalist! - merged

(This post was last modified: 02-05-2017, 12:03 PM by HURRICANE!!!.)

Quote:Get outta here with that. Charles Haley is in the hall of fame, Marvin Harrison is in the hall of fame , Ray Lewis will be next year.

Terrel Davis finished 55th in rushing yards and got in. TO is second in receiving yards and can't get it.

I don't care.  I don't like TO and I'm glad he didn't get in.

All the guys you mentioned above made their teammates better.  It could be argued that TO ultimately made his QBs worse as the years went by.  Being from Pittsburgh, I have all the reason in the world to hate Ray Lewis but the dude was great and he held his teammates accountable for being the best players they could be each and every week.

Quote:Jason Taylor gets in, but Tony Boselli doesn't?!  How the heck does that happen?  Why does Taylor belong in the first place, but over Boselli?

I understand Team Obliterater not getting in.  Great in between the lines, terrible as a teammate.  He must eventually get in, though.  You can't tell the story of the NFL without TO.

Jason Taylor averaged almost 10 sacks per year during his 15 Year Career.  I'd take that in a heartbeat.

I don't know about you but I believe the hall of fame should be about honouring the greatest players to ever play the game. TO had a hall of fame career and is a top 3 wide receiver of all time. Sure he was a prima donna and was a distraction at times but that doesn't take away from his contributions to the game.

If you are going down the moral route....why would you want two guys who killed people in the HOF over a guy who was obnoxious at best.

Quote:As some on twitter said nicely, if you aren't a Tuesday player you shouldn't even be considered for the HoF. Team returns from the off day and first thing you do is get in a meeting room and discuss how in the world you are going to mitigate so and so. Those guys are potential hall of famers.

Obviously, no team has ever spent Tuesday preparing on how you have to cope with a kicker.

I understand the line of thinking.  Yet, Kickers like Matt Prater and Justin Tucker change strategy by coaches because they have an excellent track record on very long FGs.

TO and Tony Boselli should have went in

TD should not have made it, he made it due to being a likable guy

Terrell Davis shouldn't have gotten in and the Kicker shouldn't have gotten in IMO.  I'm not a big fan of Special teamers in the hall when there are so many great guys in the trenches being lost in the shuffle.

I'm okay with Jason Taylor in, guy put up a ton of sacks had a ton of tds for his position and was a defensive player of the year and a three time all pro

Warner is one I feel should have had to wait longer to get in.  Was he really an alltime great or was he just put in nearly perfect offenses 3 different times?

I'd like to see Faneca, Boselli, Moss, Owens, Lewis next year.

There also should be an argument starting for Fred Taylor to get in the hall of fame.  Of eligible running backs only Edgerrin James has him beat on stats.

Give me a choice between Taylor, James, or Davis I'm going to pick Taylor every time.

at the moment we have the #1 LT waiting to get into the hall and one of the top 2 or 3 RBs left and eligible.  Going down the career rushing stats there doesn't look like too many modern nfl backs are going to climb up those rankings.

Go Jags!
*To stay up for atleast 2 years 3/6/17
2016 draft players I think will be good
  • On the Fournette train, will be best back of his class 3/6/17
  • Lattimore please,  Lockdowns on both sides would be nice
  • Engram at TE and the MJD clone Samaje Perine

Terrell Davis is 55th in rushing yards and got in. TO is 3rd in receiving yards + 5th in TDs scored but can't get in.

Think I've posted this twice.

Another thing that jumps out regarding Terrell Davis is the overall success that Broncos RBs had under Mike Shanahan.  With other teams,  some of these same RBs were very ordinary.

Do you think Boselli to the HoF is picking up steam, or will his momentum stall in the next couple years?

Prolly depends on the upcoming HOF finalists for the next couple of years.

The better the Jaguars do,  the more Tony Boselli's candidacy will get publicity.   I think the Jaguars struggles in recent seasons have made it more difficult for Boselli to be in the mindset of the NFL world.   The fact that Boselli made it this far despite the Jaguars rarely playing on Sunday or Monday night for quite a while is very encouraging about his future chances.

Yeah when you add it all up I don't think he is a HOF type player. His iconic playoff performances had a huge role in getting him into the hall.

Terrell Davis seems like a bad pick to me. Morten Anderson... I guess we owe him something for saving our 96 season.

Owens belongs. Is this about greatness or sportsmanship? Greatness or longevity? Owens was dominant for a good long stretch of time.

Longevity isn't greatness to me but there is some standard of doing it for a while. TD had one good year, 2 very good years, and one amazing year... then nothing. 4 years is not enough to me. Not even 8,000 yards.

If you let in TD. Are we going to put Jamal Lewis and Chris Johnson in? They both had 2000+ yard seasons and lots lots more 1000 yard seasons and total yards. TD is the worst HOF selection since Warren Moon.

Quote:LOL... What?
I wasn't kidding, look at his stats.

TD/INT ratio is almost 1:1.

No Super Bowls.

Career .500 record

Career Passer Rating: 80

Career Completion %: 58

3-7 Postseason Record

161 Career Fumbles, that's nearly 1 a game for him.

He is the definition of someone who was mediocre and did it for a long time. He got lots of counting stats but he was basically a turnover machine for most of his career.

He's Brett Favre with a higher Interception %, No Superbowls, No MVPs, fewer counting stats, Never a first team All-Pro, and a .500 record. The numbers don't lie.

Warren Moon got in because of success in the CFL as well.  It is the "Football" Hall of Fame.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Despite his collegiate success, Warren Moon went undrafted in the National Football League. With no takers in the NFL, he turned to the Canadian Football League. Moon signed with the Edmonton Eskimos, where he and <a class="" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Wilkinson_(football_player)' title="Tom Wilkinson (football player)">Tom Wilkinson</a> shared signal-calling duties and helped lead the Eskimos to a record five consecutive Grey Cup victories in 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, and 1982.[12] Moon won the offensive Grey Cup Most Valuable Player award in the 1980 and 1982 games. Moon became the first professional quarterback to pass for 5,000 yards in a season by reaching exactly 5,000 yards in 1982. In his final CFL season of 1983, Moon threw for a league record 5,648 yards, and won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player Award. Throughout his CFL career, Moon amassed 1,369 completions on 2,382 attempts (57.4 completion percentage) for 21,228 yards and 144 touchdown passes. He also led his team to victory in 9 of 10 postseason games. He was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Edmonton Eskimos Wall of Honour. In 2006, he was ranked fifth on a list of the greatest 50 CFL players presented by Canadian sports network TSN.

<p style="margin-left:40px;">

When you consider he had to go to Canada because they wouldn't draft him.  Yeah that.

CFL is such crap. We going to put Flutie in too? You can't be serious. Do we want the XFL stars in the Pro Football HOF too? Maybe be Rod He-Hate-Me- Smart in there?

He was not a great NFL player, period. If he had been drafted, he would have a few more years where he was throwing it 600 times a year, so add another 60 or so interceptions and another 50 fumbles.

We can agree to disagree.  For the time, it was a league where he could go and play.  He had great success there.  If he had been drafted, his numbers in the NFL would be better.  It is really easy to just dismiss him.  Doug Flutie was fun to watch when he returned to the NFL but it isn't really a good comparison.

All I can think of when Jason Taylor got in and Tony Boselli did not is this:
