Packers cut Sam Shields
|
Poor guy can't get out of the concussion protocol. I feel bad for him and the Packers. If he can be cleared to play, would you replace one former Packer with another? Sam Shields was Green Bay's best CB by far before he suffered the injury in Jacksonville.

He's done, his head is mushed.

Strange to see this. We are also dealing with Michael Oher who got a concussion in week 2 and is still in the concussion protocol. Very scary stuff that these guys are still not cleared after all this time. Wishing the best for both of them, but to me it seems like they should both focus on their long term health and think about hanging up the cleats

He suffered a concussion week 1 and still hasn't fully recovered.
No.

Quote:He suffered a concussion week 1 and still hasn't fully recovered. That does not mean he has no chance of being cleared by another team. If that happens, would you want him?
Quote:That does not mean he has no chance of being cleared by another team. If that happens, would you want him? The concussion protocol is performed/managed by independent neurologists. So no, another team can't clear him Quote:He suffered a concussion week 1 and still hasn't fully recovered.Damn... poor guy. Id consider retiring if its lingered that long. I didn't know how bad a concussion was until I got one about a month ago from an accident.
No idea how people play football with a concussion, and to have one for several months, he's probably got some sort of further injury to his brain.

Quote:People don't play football with concussions. They shouldn't play but they certainly can. You can have a concussion and pass their tests.
He's a great player and there is no shame in hanging it up a bit early. Football isn't everything.
Calling Deshawn Watson a future bust since 3/19/17. If I eat crow, I will keep this in here and proclaim JackCity a genius.
Quote:They shouldn't play but they certainly can. If that happens there is a problem with the testing protocol.
Quote:They shouldn't play but they certainly can. I don't think so, man. They're so cautious with concussions and the liability of having a player play with one is way too great. I don't think the tests are designed so that a player can "trick" them. But I'm also not a neurologist We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today!
Quote:I am sure Sam Shields understands he may have to retire. Actually he might not, depends on the grade of the concussion. “An empty vessel makes the loudest sound, so they that have the least wit are the greatest babblers.”. - Plato

I don't think the tests are designed so that a player can "trick" them. But I'm also not a neurologist If it's bad enough, I'm not sure how they could pass it. But if the concussion is mild, then the only symptoms could be complaints that the player may choose not to share with them.
