That would be the absolute best case scenario. Sure up the line and get the rb we need. Then we could continue to go o line for a few rounds and actually build a deep line.

Jimmy Garoppolo started only two games last year. I think teams are only excited about him because there are no elite QB prospects in the draft. No smart team will trade a first rounder for an inexperienced QB whose only NFL coach so far is Bill Belichick.

IF it is true that "no smart team will trade a first rounder for an inexperienced QB whose only NFL coach so far is Bill Belichick," then why would a team spend a first rounder on a QB who has never played NFL football at all?   And yet, they do that every year.   Garropolo was not only a highly rated QB coming out, he also has some (successful) NFL game tape to evaluate, unlike every single player in the draft.  That makes him a much more reliable investment than any of the QBs in the draft.

Cam and walker are total busts. You don't take a right tackle that high especially now in an o-line class that's so weak. Walker is severely overrated. He would have been exposed at the senior bowl. I'd rather have Hunt in the 3rd. Webb could be a decent project at QB to sit and learn for a season or two. If the browns were gonna give up their 12th and 33rd for anyone it'd be garappolo and that's pretty steep. In this scenario though, my wish list would be....

12. Solomon Thomas/Marshon lattimore/Derek Barnett

33. Forrest Lamp

35. Tredavious White

65. Kareem Hunt

68. John Johnson

 

What the hell are you going on about? Taking a RT at No. 12 is completely reasonable. The tacks drafted Jack Conklin to play RT and he's already a first team all PRO after being selected 8th overall last year. Taylor Decker also started at RT for the Lions and he went 16th overall last year.

 

Taking Robinson at No. 12 is plenty reasonable and he's easily an upgrade over Parnell who was a huge weak link last year between the holding calls and false starts. He also whiffed a bunch. We also just decided NOT to pick-up Beachum's option. So there could be even more to this than originally thought.

 

And how the hell do you come up with guys being "busts" already before they set foot on an NFL field? Robinson's helped pave the way for monster running games in Alabama. Walker has been a freak off the edge in the passing and running game. Both of those guys are highly touted and respected coming out of college.

New England trades #12 & 32 to move to #4.  At #4, they take WR Mike WIlliams out of Clemson.

 

Jacksonville ends up with 3 picks in the top 36.

2.  San Francisco-Mitch Trubisky QB

3.  Chicago-Watson

4.  New England (from Jax)-Williams

5.  Tennessee-Malik Hooker

NFL.com had an article in which some analysts were asked whether they would rather acquire a young QB with limited experience or draft one. Some answers were along the "Avoid repeating Houston's mistake with Brock Oswelier" lines, specifically regarding a trade for Jimmy Garoppolo. Although the situations are different, a first round pick would be overpaying, just like $72 million was. I'm sure you would understand if you read that article.

While I won't go so far as to call Walker a bust, he's undersized when it comes to playing inside and not long/athletic enough to play on the edge. Not really the best traits to have as a tweener, which is why Solomon Thomas is looked at more favorably despite his tweener status too.

Can't see them doing that for Mike Williams.  Lots of scouts aren't even putting him as the best WR in this class, let alone an elite prospect worth trading up for.  I'd personally put Davis ahead of him, maybe Ross too.  I'd rather take Kupp in the 2nd than Williams in the first.

 

Also, I think NEP is fine at WR.  Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Floyd, makes a decent group of guys.

Ok I agree with your argument about taking a rt at 12 isn't ridiculous but in this draft it kind of is especially if you're suggesting Robinson. He's not great in pass protection but he is a mauler in the run game which is something we could use but not when he's a liability in the passing game. I like ramczyk and bolles a lot more than Robinson I'd even prefer taking feeney and lamp above him. And walker is an undersized DT who can't beat a tackle around the corner. He has a nice swim move but most of the pressure he creates is inside where he'll be outmatched in the nfl. Evan engram handled him in the ole miss game and he's an undersized TE. These two guys are overhyped bc of the programs they played for which is why I called them "busts" bc if you're taking these guys at 12 and 33 I feel like they're not going to play up to that value.

I can't remember the last time I saw the Pats take a WR in the 1st round of a draft.


They have always gotten by on mid-late round WRs and FA acquisitions/trades.


Randy Moss is the only top wr I can think of that they landed.


They've been rolling with guys like Troy Brown, David Patten, Deion Branch, Welker, Lafell, Edelman, Amendola, etc..... for a decade and a half.


They aren't taking a WR very high (even at the #32 pick). They like taking DBs, LBs, DEs, O-line. Id be shocked if they went WR.

Like every year we have a top 10 pick, I don't want to get out of that range without a boatload of picks in return. That would include a 2018 first rounder.

 

Agreed I was more concerned with this year as far as trade compensation.
