Cousins may hit FA after all.

" Washington has nine days to apply the franchise tag to quarterback <a class="" href='http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/7486/kirk-cousins'>Kirk Cousins</a>. One way to avoid using it would be to sign Cousins to a long-term deal before then. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Cousins won’t be doing that."
"Absent a significant premium, Cousins has every reason to sit tight and draw a second franchise tag. By rule, he’d be essentially insulated from ever being franchise-tagged again, since he’d be entitled to a 44-percent raise over his franchise tag or a similar markup upon application of the franchise tag for the third time in his career. <p style="font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-size:15.52px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">And so the flow chart for Washington is simple through March 1: Tag him or don’t tag him. If he’s tagged, Cousins will rush to sign it, adding $23.94 million to the $19.95 million he earned last year. Then, talks on a long-term deal likely will consist of Cousins receiving $23.94 million fully guaranteed in 2017, plus a 20-percent raise (reflecting the increase arising from use of the transition tag) fully guaranteed for 2018. It’s a total of $52.67 million over two years; for anything less than that, Cousins should again take it year to year. <p style="font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-size:15.52px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">Before anyone accuses Cousins of being greedy, unreasonable, or not “worth” a contract that would make him the highest paid player in the NFL history, he’s simply playing the cards he has been dealt under the CBA and the salary cap. Washington could have signed him to a very reasonable long-term deal after his third season or during his fourth season. Once he completed his rookie contract healthy and effective, the leverage swung to Cousins — and he has taken full advantage of it. <p style="font-family:Georgia, 'Times New Roman', Times, serif;margin:0em 0em 1.2em;font-size:15.52px;color:rgb(0,0,0);">If fans are inclined to blame Cousins for that, the blame is better directed at the team, for not giving Cousins a reasonable degree of financial security until he was in position to finagle nearly $44 million over two years." http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...chise-tag/ We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote:Why? People are saying Bortles lucked into his 2015 season. And 35tds. That doesn't happen on accident either. I still think Cousins is right there with the tier below elite QBs though. Bortles could still get there, especially if TC lights a fire. Let's not forget, Eli has had plenty of dumpster fire years, including 3 where he threw at least 20 INTs. And he beat Brady twice
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS
Quote:I might be in the minority in terms of my opinion. But here it goes: I'd like to go to a game where one bad throw costs the Jaguars a playoff spot. i would pay extra after market stub hub money to see that game. This team would have to be somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 - 6 or 8 - 7 to be in that position. Halla-freakin'-luigha, #33

Quote:What's stupid is Jaguars fans already giving up on Bortles after one bad season.Rookie year = Awful (similar to Gabbert) second season = Promising (would have been amazing if he had about half the INTs) third year = Average (too many INTs, leaning towards piss awful)

Kirk would make us an instant 8 win team. Instant. Maybe the defense wins a game or 2 for us and we would be playoff bound. But yeah...those are my thoughts.
If he becomes available we have to take a run at him. Open battle in training camp. I got a feeling the skins and Cousins will work something out before free agency.

Cousins is going to get one of the biggest contracts ever from someone, hes not competing with [BLEEP].
and Blake is not competing with any starting qb if we brought any in. Blake can do some training camp battle with the nick foles and brian hoyers of the world but hes getting washed by anyone competent. Quote:Why would a change of scenery make him better, the scenery he was already in was probably one of if not the best for a qb in the entire league This is my take as well. For Kirk Cousins to perform at a high level with consistency, he seems to need near optimal conditions on the Offensive side of the ball. Quote:I'd like to go to a game where one bad throw costs the Jaguars a playoff spot. I respect where you are coming from. Yet, here's the question that comes to mind; Lets say the Jaguars win the AFC South with a 9-7 record in 2017 and lose in the first round of the playoffs. Much like the Redskins did in the NFC East in 2015. How do you think you will react if in 2018, the Jaguars season played out like the Redskins 2016 season? Quote:give me Cousins over Mariota We definitely have a difference of preference regarding the two QBs. It will be interesting to see how it plays out with both QBs. IMO, Tennessee had nowhere near the WR corp that the Washington Redskins did in 2016. Even under that set of circumstance, I still would clearly take Marcus Mariota if he makes a full recovery from his injury. We show less advertisements to registered users. Quote: This is my take as well.He had pretty much everything around him and is still an average qb. Hes not worth the money he wants and good for the redskins FO for not being dumb enough to pay it.
