Quote:There isn't a bulletproof prospect at any more premium position, if there was it might be different. Adams blends safe, clean, and upside better than anyone else in the draft after Garrett.

In your opinion.  You, yourself are an advocate of playing "revisionist history," in the sense that we won't know until the future plays out and proves (or disproves) that.

We also need to be careful how we throw around the "safest pick" label, seeing how Aaron Curry ended up.

Hooker is the higher graded prospect in some minds, so I wouldn't say Adams is so clear even if looking solely at S.

I could easily see us drafting DL, CB, or RB above Adams.

I also would favor trading down to selecting Adams there.

Not a dismissal, but there is a seat for you at Cleatwood's children's table for those who can't keep up.

I'm not a fan of drafting Adams simply because he's not even the best safety in the class.

Second round safeties would fulfill the role just as well as any we could select at four.

Can't say that about some of the more premium positions.

That's what makes the position, not just the pool of candidates, more premium.

What 2nd round S this year would fulfill the SS just as well as Adams? This is utter nonsense and you know it.

Adams is probably the surest bet to make the Pro Bowl among early candidates.

I disagree. Hooker gets a few more INTs, but what else?

I'd rather a safety than a running back at #4

But but but.... AARON CURRY!

Better range. Anticipation.

What is it, exactly, you believe a Pro Bowl safety will do for the Jaguars that a safety that's very good will not do?

That's the crux of the disconnect.

You seem to think it would make things magical.  I believe a B+ player at the position would make defense, and by extension our overall team, no less strong.  I don't even believe it necessarily must be a second round player.

Compare that to adding an impact DL, CB, or RB with our first pick... and I see a much bigger impact for that player than Adams on our overall success.

I never saw it with Aaron Curry lol.

are you still running with this schtick that you have more knowledge than others because youre old? Idk who told you that but theres no correlation to the lack of hair on your head and what you know about the game so theres really no reason for your continued high horse.

Both the safety and RB need help to be successful. The safety needs a good pass rush and the RB needs a good Oline. We have neither.

I think DLine needs to be the pick at 4 with a RB later in round 3. The Oline needs to be addressed in FA. A B+ running back would be just fine if the OLine is addressed.

And what you just wrote can be used against you when it comes to RB. What would a pro bowl RB do that a very good RB wouldn't be able to do?

Hooker is literally better at everything except sure tackling.

#56

Even if we do draft a safety. Unless we address the pass rush either through draft, FA, trade they likely won't be in a position to succeed.

Which has been a very big problem here.

Id say no one should argue that dlineman are less impactful than safeties, we just added an impact corner last year and had 3 wins, and the justification for rb over pretty much any position with a top 5 pick is iffy at best.

True, but its not like Hooker is awful at tackling, Adams is just better at it. I'd prefer the playmaker with average tackling.

Hooker is like A+ in half the game and C or D in the other half, albeit the less important half obviously. Adams is an A and A.
