Jags in play for Trumain Johnson?

#1

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...ne-johnson

"Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson signed his franchise tag on Monday morning, but will he wind up far beyond the sunny shores of Los Angeles?

"NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday that the Rams are in discussions with several clubs about potentially trading away their top cover man, per teams involved in the talks."

=======================================

The article goes on to mention the Jags as a possible trade partner.

They need WR. I wonder if it could be for one of our top 3 WR?

I'd rather go get one of the FA corners than to trade away Hurns

Johnson is far from medicore, but I dont want to give up one of our top players or a top pick to get him

Can franchise tagged players be traded straight up for another player?  Would you have to take over their salary for the franchise tag or can you negotiate a new deal?

why trade when there's like 12 good CBs on the market. Also this is our number 2 CB, Ramsey is clearly number 1.

Definitely would depend on the deal but I'd love to see him opposite Ramsey. The jags are presumably just doing due diligence trying to think of all possible avenues to improve the team as much as they can this offseason.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

because we can go a different direction in the draft. There are other deep positions as well

I'd rather keep Prince around and draft a corner in the second or third round if it came to that, tbqh.

he only ran a 7.20s in the 3-cone during the combine 5 years ago.

clearly that doesn't meet the "filters" that KYJaggy was talking about so he's clearly not a good player.

Tru Johnson would be the 2nd best CB and would give us more than what Prince gave us.

I would pay him in a heart beat.

You'd also have to give him a new contract, so it would be a pricey acquisition.
