Nose Tackle

With Miller's injury being a question mark for return and Jones the only other true NT on the roster, do we find another in the draft in 2017?

Who knows?

Here are some possibilities (no order) :

Carlos Watkins

Caleb Brantley

Montravious Adams

There are more of course - please post on those you like.

I'd add Dalvin Tomlinson from Alabama as another name.

I don't even think I would characterize Abry as a true nose. I think he's done an admirable job performing a role he's not ideally suited for.

Yes. That's not inaccurate. He was a bit more of a big guy swiss army knife that did well playing the NT spot when called upon.

For the purposes of our discussion - he may be the only guy on the roster besides the rehabbing Miller that would play base downs at NT.

Adams is a bit risky as he's fairly raw and his motor/drive is a question mark.

The only guy I like for a NT spot is Eddie Vanderdoes and he'll probably have to be taken in the 2nd if you want him.

He's kind of like Abry in the way he's surprisingly athletic for a guy who can play nose. Gives a bit of pass rush too.

I do like Vanderdoes quite a bit, but he's gonna fall through the RB/TE/OG-are-much-bigger-needs-on-day-2 crack in the floor for me.

Montravious Adam's if they go that route.

I have no idea what round he's projected to go in, but I found the perfect NT...

Elijah Qualls, Washington

Here's a projected 5th round NT...

Apparently Louis Nix is also on the roster, which I didn't catch until very recently. He has other issues, but I would definitely consider him a good depth option for NT.

With Sen'Derrick gone, this really is suddenly a potential draft need. I'll comment on these three and my two additions from recent replies above...

  • Pass on Carlos Watkins. Per nfl.com, "...His top-heavy frame limits his anchor at the point..." You really need a guy with a low center of gravity to be an anchor up front.

  • Brantley is interesting for a more athletic big guy. Reading his bio I keep thinking about Marcus Stroud. As a Gator, he's also already accustomed to the humidity. I'd actually love to seem them get this guy, but is that really an option for the Jaguars?

  • Adams is not much of a pass rusher, but for what we need he seems to fit the bill just fine.

  • Qualls...
    http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/e...id=2557981 ... seriously looks the part. Also, he did 33 reps. <strong> :woot:<span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong>
    </strong></strong></span></strong></span>
  • <strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong>Tu'iklolavatu...
</strong></strong></span></strong></span></strong></span>http://www.nfl.com/draft/2017/profiles/s...id=2557962<strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong> ...the guy is just massive at 331 lbs. Per nfl.com, "...Has experience eating double teams to keep his linebackers clean..."
    </strong></strong></span></strong></span></strong></span>

<strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong><span style="color:#008080;"><strong>Maybe someone can check out the best draft plan to target these guys. Brantley I'm thinking you'd have to get rather early, but Adams, Qualls and Tu'iklovatu are all surely later round picks. I'd really like to see them land one of these latter three in the draft.

Remember we hired the Clemson DL coach so Watkins is definitely a name to watch

If we do I feel it would be more for the 3-tech role behind Malik than it would be for the NT spot meaning we would still want one of the latter three
(Adams, Qualls or Tu'k)
... that is unless we do land Dontari Poe.

I'm really liking Caleb Brantley to the point that I'm now considering him at #35. Of course Dion Dawkins is still my top option at the spot, and then I wonder about guys falling like possibly Evans or Njoku at TE.... or a top QB... etc. ...but Brantley is totally worth the pick as well the more I read into him. I feel like you could draft him and he'd have no problem picking up the role as our rotational NT alongside Abry. He's a truly huge guy who can move.

If we don't get Brantley at #35 I'm sure he'll be gone soon after, and I still like the latter three as possible 4th or 5th round options at NT.

Here's his combine stats...

<p style="margin-left:40px;">Caleb Brantley, Florida - 6' 2 5/8", 307 lbs, 32" arms, 5.14 40, 27" vert, 8' 9" broad, 7.66 3-cone, 4.62 20-yd shuttle, 21 reps
