Clowney didn't take an entire season off. The guy had 28 hurries last year and 21 going into today. I'm not worried about his effort at the next level


I think it has been way over blown. Everything they are saying about Clowney, the said the same thing about Alshon a fee years ago. I even remember a "fat" picture going around.

Clowney in a way reminds me of Andrew Bynum in the NBA. Great Talent. But is the love for the game really there?

He's not overhyped at all he is a truly elite DE prospect, people just love to overestimate how much of an impact DEs can have on a game. 

 

That stat I've used in other posts is JJ Watt last year in his DPOY all-time great all-around season only made a positive impact on a play 19% of the time (as graded by PFF). That includes tackles, pressures, sacks, deflections, etc. So even if Clowney (or any other pass rusher) turn into literally the best pass rusher in the entire league they will still be rendered useless 80+ percent of the time. 

 

That's why you take a QB if you have one graded even close to the same as any other position.

I'm not a good qb evaluator and I'll admit it. I like Teddy a lot like most people, but Manziel I can't tell if he's the next Russell Wilson or Doug Flutie. No to Flutie, yes to Wilson at #3 overall.

I would have to take Clowney at three if he was there the man is good, even if he is only playing for money he will want more then what that rookie contract is going to give and to get that money you have to play good.

Clowney all day. If you put him on the end he would make Branch and Marks even better than they are. Plus the secondary would improve greatly by bad throws. He changes a whole defense.
