A Great Article on Building a Draft Board
|
Over the years, there have been plenty of intense debates on this board on draft approaches-BAP vs Need, etc.
Here is an article that details that process, courtesy of Pro football Weekly. http://www.profootballweekly.com/2017/03...y/arcnvrr/ Among the interesting tidbits... Quote: Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

I wonder just how many teams have taken Mixon off their draft board. I'm guessing half the league.

Quote:I wonder just how many teams have taken Mixon off their draft board. I'm guessing half the league.Every year, there are players taken off draft boards due to character and injury issues. I have no doubt Mixon has been taken off some boards. If a team as solid as the Patriots have taken him off their boards because they don't want to take the PR hit, I'm sure other teams that have not built up the national good will don't want to deal with that, either. But the idea of whittling down boards to 100 players bolsters my point that pure BAP doesn't exist. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
I can't help but wonder how many players are eliminated due to coaching ineptness.
For example "that kid seems like a good athlete, but Jimmy the lb coach can't do anything with him."
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:I can't help but wonder how many players are eliminated due to coaching ineptness.I would think the elimination of most of those players comes after the draft. If a team knows a position coach sucks at coaching/developing players, one would think they wouldn't hire him in the first place or at least fire the guy after the season and get his replacement before this process rolls around. So if the team were good in identifying talent and bad at developing it, they would be on the roster for a bit then be released (see the LB Marshall we cut that went to Denver). If a team is too inept to know the position coach sucks at developing talent, then even assuming they identified a prospect that could develop into a viable player, they wouldn't weed him out because the position coach sucks. If anything they'd weed the guy out in the draft board construction phase because they suck at evaluating talent. Now maybe in addition to sucking at player development, Jimmy the LB coach sucks at identifying talent, so perhaps that happens. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!
