Fiesta Bowl thread: Okay Bortles...impress me.
|
I was very impressed with Bortles. Accurate, threw well on the run and moved the ball at will. His team was a 17 point underdog and he hung 50+ on them. He also showed great mobility. I would take him top 10.
LEONARD FOURNETTE FAN CLUB PRESIDENT. I WAS BEHIND HIM WHEN YOU ALL SAID HE WAS BRANDON JACOBS. QUIT HATING ON THE JAGUARS. GUS IS GONE. COUGHLIN HAS RESTORED ORDER. FOURNETTE IS FRED TAYLOR. DONT BELIEVE ME JUST WATCH.

Quote:One play. He doesn't do that consistently in the pocket. Again, he's absolutely phenomenal on the fly, though. I just don't think his skills "on the fly" are going to mean anything in the NFL. If he runs around in the backfield in the pros like he does in college, he'll get ripped in half. I've seen him do it all year......look I'm tired of this. I like Bortles. I like Carr. If Dave decides to go in that direction....I'm good. I prefer Bridgewater & Manziel. I think they are better than the rest although I Bortles is a close #3 for me. You have your opinion . I have mine. I won't be changing my mind till the combine.
Quote:JaguarKick, I have a 'man-love' for people who I consider will be franchise QBs. That's why I love Teddy and Manziel. I think you'd be well served to evaluate some more Bortles. I was not a Bortles guys until I watched some cut ups of him. He's third on my list behind the two guys you've mentioned, but I also consider him a franchise QB and would not be disappointed if we took him. I believe his pocket presence is better than Manziel's, and I think he's more durable. Love your work, by the way.

I have literally no freaking idea how Manziel does what he does, and the thing that excites me and terrifies me is whether he can do it in the NFL. Luckiest QB I have ever seen play. Woah Mort just said one of the administrators at UCF and Brotles have O'Brain connections, I think Houston will seriously consider him and he fits O'Brain's type QB big tall guy

There are three QB that I think have a chance at being a franchise QB. Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles. We will have a shot at atleast one of those. I know many love Clowney, but he to me is starting to draw red flags. His character is coming into question, along with his motor. He just only seems to care of money, does not seem like he really cares. On talent alone, he's the best in this class, but I'm not sure he's as sure fire as some might think. Chances are, he' works out, but talent alone will not make him great, if he's got no heart or fire, he could be like a Harvey.
If bridgewater or Manziel are there, you take them. Bortles, while I love, just make sure he is the guy you think he is, hopefully not over drafted. I like Murray and mettenberger, maybe as later picks. Gotta take a QB, I'm not against Clowney, just want the QB. If bridgewater and Manziel are gone, you go Bortles or Clowney.
I can't shake the feeling that I was watching Ben Roethlisberger last night, bad plays and all. I didn't see quite as much risk taking as Ben is wont to do, but most everything else was there; the movement in the pocket, the willingness to tuck and run, roll out passes and everything else. When I consider that, I think about of all the times I have watched Roethlisberger play a game and if I have ever thought "He's one of the best QB's in the League." I don't think I've ever said or thought that about Ben and I imagine I'll feel the same way about Bortles.
If he has a solid team around him and weapons that he can use, he's going to be effective for a long time. Are there better QB's out there? Yes, I believe so and I would definitely prefer to have them over Bortles, but that doesn't mean that you won't win with him on your team. I feel like Blake can be a big time contributor for a consistent playoff contender. It's been stated over and over again, and if it hasn't then it should be; You don't have to have the best Quarterback to win, but it sure does make things easier.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.
Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say! Quote:Bortles = Gabbert 2.0 but with more courage in the pocket. Baylor did nothing to disspell the rumors of Big 12 defenses not being very good.

ESPN has Bortles projected going to Jax.

Deacon, I got that vibe as well. He seems capable enough on the move and in the pocket, but I just don't see anything about him that makes me say wow.
Like I said, though, I'd probably rather have him than Carr at this point.
