Bucky Brooks Article on Leonard Fournette
|
Quote:4. Providing a competent or better running game for a QB is not eschewing him. Historically, when teams draft QBs, they draft RBs to support them.I wouldn't consider providing a QB who has only played out of shotgun heavy offenses in his career with a running back who has only played from under center supporting though. To me it would seem like burdening a QB who is already struggling to fix his mechanics, of which footwork and balance issues are a big part of the problem, with having to master 3-5-7 step drop backs at the same time might not be the wisest thing to do. I don't see the "generational talent". He's big and fast for his size, but he isn't exceptionally quick. Poor vision, poor blocking, unproven receiving ability, no exceptional physical talents outside of strength, etc.
Running back is the only position I don't want at #4. Quote:I don't see the "generational talent". He's big and fast for his size, but he isn't exceptionally quick. Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."
Quote:Yikes, I do purposefully avoid long form big draft so I guess I'm not surprised. They did say all of that absurd stuff about Fowler being athletic and explosive too.If the Jags had just agreed with the big drafts in the past, we wouldn't have drafted so poorly. Earl Thomas or JPP? Nope. Let's take Alualu Kerrigan or Quin? Nope. Gabbert Blackmon? Yea that one sucks 2013? Entire draft is garbage but a lot had Ansah Khalil Mack? Nope.... Bortles Verdict still out on Fowler Ramsey! Hey we got one!
On another note, LSU's pro day is today so let's put some empirical evidence behind the theories on his explosion and agility. All we have so far is the awful vertical to support lack of explosion before he dropped out of the rest of the drills.

Quote:Poor vision is your take from watching him so much? Yes. He takes the obvious lanes or tries to power throw those that aren't. He rarely if ever cuts back too. What else would that be?

I have faith that the jaguars front office and scouting department doesn't blindly listen "big draft". I'm sure they all spend as much, or more time, scouting these players than you and your underground draft rebellion party does. So if he slides down the boards into the teens, then clearly they're seeing the same stuff as you guys. But if he goes top 8, like I suspect, then it goes to show you that maybe you guys aren't as smart as you think. Because if you were, then all of you would be running NFL teams, instead of working 9 to 5s like the rest of us and watching film as a hobby. Your mind is pretty much made up about him so his pro day means nothing. Quote:At this point, does it matter? "LSU RB Leonard Fournette weighs in at 228 pounds at @LSUfootball pro day. Down from 240 at Combine #pathtothedraft"
I've always wondered if he could play at 225 or 220. He'd still be freakishly powerful but might help with his initial burst and agility a bit. Quote:Yes. He takes the obvious lanes or tries to power throw those that aren't. He rarely if ever cuts back too. What else would that be?I thought RBs were supposed to hit obvious holes. Besides, there have been plenty of great RBs that weren't cutback guys. Eddie George, Earl Campell, Eric Dickerson, Jerome Bettis, Gerald Riggs, Bo Jackson and many others had great careers without being great cutback guys. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."
Quote:"LSU RB Leonard Fournette weighs in at 228 pounds at @LSUfootball pro day. Down from 240 at Combine #pathtothedraft"It would help, but it's questionable if that's what he's staying at or if it was just to try to get better drill numbers like so many before. I almost wish he would have weighed only a tad less so it didn't raise more questions. Quote:I have faith that the jaguars front office and scouting department doesn't blindly listen "big draft". Heck, with all of the scouting teams do, they still get it wrong...even the great teams. It's far from an exact science. KY may even ultimately prove right in this debate. As long as the Jaguars get the picks right, that's all that matters to me at the end of the day. Worst to 1st. Curse Reversed!

Fournette, Howard, Thomas, Allen.... I don't care who it is as long as they produce like a #4 pick and help take this team to the playoffs. |
