Lagemen or Boselli said Jags were pleased with what they saw late last year with Allen. Assuming that is true, could explain why no QB was brought in via draft or F.A.
The love that Brandon Allen gets when really nobody knows anything about him is amazing. The back ups back up is the favorite player on the team I guess.
Quote:Allen is terrible, please everyone stop. I don't even have the energy to break it down for you. This is quite a claim so you better start breaking it down for us. Everything I've seen out of Allen since he joined the Jaguars has been impressive.

I agree with posters above saying part of the reason we did not go QB is that they felt Allen was better. So why am I so high on Allen when we've seen so little? Well, a little is enough. I've seen enough to know for certain that Allen has a beautiful pass and a natural deep arm. For me that's enough because most everything else can be learned. Moreover, in those handful of reps he has taken...including the entire final Preseason game last year...nothing glaringly bad stood out. He looked poised and comfortable throwing the whole time. The only real question is I'm not sure if we've really had a chance to watch him under pressure.

Well, we'll have a chance soon to see what a year's worth of work with the Jags has done for him. I would love if they opened up the 2nd string spot for competition with him and Henne, and he took it away from Henne. We (fans) just haven't seen enough of him with the 1's to know what he can do. I want to him throw the deep ball to Westbrook as soon as possible.

I remember his touchdown throw against ATL in the final preseason game. A beauty down the seam to Shaq Evans.
Quote:I agree with posters above saying part of the reason we did not go QB is that they felt Allen was better. Reading this statement makes me feel like you haven't watched him at all. I really don't intend to make it personal - so please don't misread me - we just have polarizing opinions on his ability. I know he at times can hit a deep pass, but it's far too inconsistent because most of his passes are him heaving as hard as he can. This is not because he doesn't posses velocity from the rotatory cuff, but because of weakness in his wrists, and overall small hands. The end result is what you see, some good deeper throws but mostly throws that pull or don't spin very well toward the target and so you have to hide him in a sense by limiting deeps throws. Even at that, he can't drive a ball into those tight windows like McCarron or Garropolo do, which gives them more of a starters appeal. This makes for a QB that looks like a solid back-up at best, but if want him to start someday and be the next Tom Brady story, you might want to look elsewhere. I agree it doesn't take long to see if someone can play will say, I feel like I can see it within 10-15 throws. I will also agree that it seems the coaching staff agrees with you since they made little effort to acquire any new arms. I still see Allen as a bubble player and career outlook potential as trusty back-up/journeyman. We show less advertisements to registered users. Accounts are free; join today! We haven't seen enough of him for me to adamantly disagree, but I'll simply say this... From what I have seen, all he does is throw deep. I even have to question if he has a short game. I'll add... I'll have to look to see if he's "heaving," but the passes themselves look textbook with an ideal arc and spiral and plenty of touch.

Watch how far he brings his shoulder and body weight back like a sling, it's extra movement - which is the unnatural movement i'm talking about I'm going off of Razorback footage and his preseason footage Quote:Watch how far he brings his shoulder and body weight back like a sling, it's extra movement - which is the unnatural movement i'm talking about Yep. I remember laughing and making a slingshot comment as well in preseason. There's a pause at the end just prior to launch, too (making me think of slingshots.) Looks goofy. But, as long as it's effective, it can look as goofy as it wants. Problem is, few can have such glaring flaws and still play at a high level (Rivers the only I can recall easily.)

I have been told the reason we didn't seriously attempt to bring in a vet Qb or draft a QB to compete with or push Blake is that our team felt Brandon Allan is better than anyone available.
I was also told that he will get a lot of time with second team this offseason as well as some first team reps. Makes sense to me. Watch his college highlight YouTube .he's good Quote:I find it kinda humorous the way 02 gets fixated and certain players. I have a soft spot for exceptional talents who are being overlooked. Besides, I also hate on some players... like I really don't care for Henne or Shatley. Shatley I just don't get. I believe he's physically one of the strongest players in the locker room, but you don't see that on the field. On the field he gets bullied around. I'm reminded of how much I consistently hated on MLB Tony Gilbert who amazingly kept making the roster year after year. The guy was a total slug.

Quote:I have a soft spot for exceptional talents who are being overlooked. Good God. 'Exceptional talents'?. Oh boy. Quote:Good God. Maybe I should re-phrase that as players with an exceptional talent.... great speed... great arm... etc. But I'm not necessarily locked on them. For instance, I'm well aware that the phenomenally fast Corey Grant is being challenged this offseason by some undrafted scat back named I'Tavius Mathers and that Arrelious Benn with his great combo of speed, power and hands is being challenged by an undrafted track star named Kenneth Walker III.

If allen was remotely good. Henne does not get an extension period.

#Gojags Quote:If allen was remotely good. Henne does not get an extension period. This just isn't the case. QB is such a sensitive position that they're hanging onto Chenne until their sure Allen can do it all. They certainly do like him or they never would have kept in on the roster all year as the third qb. That said, I'm convinced Allen will finally get a shot to compete with Henne for the backup spot, and if Allen wins, Henne is gone. Moreover, I feel this much will happen.
