Championship Pedigree

You want to know where you can really see the difference between Gene and Caldwell? It's the offseason, so let's talk about it. Caldwell has drafted Michael Bennet, Rashad Greene, and TJ Yeldon, all three were key parts of the last three National championship teams at Ohio State, FSU, and Alabama! Furthermore, we also drafted Bem Koyack who played in a title game, and picked up Corey Grant and Nick Marshall who played in title games. A far cry from the days of Colorado School of Mines' finest players. Big conferences, even bigger moments.

All very good picks. Not sure about a championship but I also like the Cann pick.

What if Sterling was to end up as a good player? A good wideout. I think he can be more than a move TE

Yes, Dave certainly is more in line with the popular sentiment regarding the choice of players than Gene proved to be. It's kind'a an interesting comparison; Dave is going with the statistically superior selections while Gene gambled often on trying to find 'gems' from less prolific schools. In baseball, I would see Dave as the guy who has the power to hit the long ball, but instead goes for the higher percentage base hit. Gene was the guy who constantly 'swung for the fence' (even when all that was needed was a base hit) and constantly struck out.

Then again, comparing Dave with Gene is also kind'a like comparing a 'nice' looking girl to a really ugly girl; next to the wart-hog ugly girl, the nice looking girl looks positively beautiful.

Anyway, our record under Dave hasn't been anything to write home to mom about yet. I think this is the lasting effect of what was perpetrated on this team by Gene Smith. We've had two good drafts now with Dave, and this is season three of the total rebuild of the roster. It's time to start seeing some wins now to validate the excellence of Dave's picks and Gus's coaching. We'll see...
