At this point we should concentrate on having a dominant defense and hope Bill O'Brien can work some magic with the offense. My biggest hope is Mallet being that first round pick he was supposed to be before his trouble in college.

Dude was 20 of 25 for an 80% completion rate from the line of scrimmage to the 20. And 6 of 7 for an 87% completion rate from 10 to 20 yards out. Not to mention a beautiful 40 yards completion to Hopkins. Not sure what more you could ask for in his first game. Not saying he's the guy but thats a good start in anyones book.

The coaching staff did a good job of taking advantage of the opposition's lack of film on mallet and made a game plan that covered for Mallett's greatest weakness (his inability to read defenses and make good decisions) by having single read or checkdown plays where he didn't have to understand what the defense was doing beyond whether his single read was getting the coverage they wanted to or not. Right now it's pretty much a guessing game. We dont know if either of these guys are going to pan out. And while Fitz had his best season ever it wasnt all that. I will say this,i'm glad we didnt reach last year and pick a QB in the first round because I'm not that high on any of them. |
