Edgar Bennet should be our OC. He's good, needs a shot.

Quote:Gus Bradley said he fired Jedd Fisch because of a different philosophy in how to develop Blake Bortles. That means he can't just rely on Frank Scelfo to improve at the quarterback position, but also needs an OC who is good at developing quarterbacks.

The way I understood Gus's comments was that he didn't like the all at once approach of Fisch and preferred a more incremental mastery of the game.

Either way it's Gus's job to bring someone in that can make the offense function and understands offensive and defensive scheme and how to dictate the other team react to what you want to do, instead of always having to react to the defense.

I don't see the Jaguars poaching a position coach this time around. I think they want a veteran OC/former HC with a track record of success in the coaching the offensive side of the ball. Edgar Bennett was a good player and is certainly a good coach, but I think the Jaguars are after a name right now.

Jedd Fisch was the OC at Miami. Your first statement implies he was just a position coach there.

I am not sure about going after a big name. If that was important to him, he would not have hired Fisch. But I definitely want a veteran OC with a good track record.

I said "this time around".

A big name clearly wasn't important to him last time, but if you think for a second that he'd get away with hiring another Jedd Fisch type this time around, you're mistaken.

Having a "big name" is not as important as people think. Obviously the most important thing is sharing Gus Bradley's philosophy for developing Blake Bortles. A coach can have a big name and be no better at that than Jedd Fisch.

Bring Todd Bowles in and make him the OC. I know he's a DC but his job is to counter what the other teams offense is doing..Who better to have in the job that requires the offense to counter the defense then a guy who knows about defense...

I don't care who it is, just bring an offense that has proven it can be successful

Edgar has never called an offensive play in his life.  Personally, I'm tired of hiring coaches that need to learn on the job.  It's time to get someone that has a proven track record in calling plays.

You're right I forgot that their only job is to call plays....

Or that several Offensive Coordinators have been quarterbacks and WR coaches.

Yeah I agree with this. There's certainly the appeal of hiring the "next big thing", but given the youth of our team's offense, I don't think we can go with someone who's going to learn on the job.

The team needs to hire someone with NFL experience as offensive coordinator. Bradley basically said as much the other day.

I'm curious of how many plays a Quarterbacks coach calls and why that is considered okay experience but having coached WRs and RBs is not. Does even coaching a QB matter if there are dedicated QB coaches? Like I said I think a OCs responsibility is more than just calling plays.
