Chip Kelly interviewing as OC

Quote:I have no reason to agree with that.  But his gimmicky offense has been exposed in the NFL.  I can't see TC signing off on that.  But who knows?
They were saying on the radio that before he took the gig in SF, Kelly was a target of Belichick.

If TC and Belichick are interested in the guy, those are some amazing endorsements.

However, I have a ton of misgivings about  the hire.

Let me add that Bortles was much more effective in a hurry-up offense.

I'm all for hiring Kelly as the OC.

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

Asked people with both opponents if #Eagles signals are out. Nope. Players do think they figured out PHI’s run schemes, based in simplicity

Funny thing is that the run game has done pretty well in both Philadelphia and San Francisco under Kelly. Lowest his team has finished is 14th and the other three were top 10.

Yes, Bortles fares well in hurry up/up tempo situations.

Still not sure if I am for Kelly as OC.

He seems to dramatically burn bridges everywhere he goes.

He chased away McCoy, D Jackson, and the guy now in Tennessee.

Who would he run away here?

He is not the one making personnel decisions here.

San Francisco players seem to really like him.

Probably because he wasn't making personnel decisions there either.

... perhaps we're just trying to land the racist redneck Riley Cooper in free agency and think they best way to get him signed is to bring in Chip Kelley has OC.

Quote:Last time I checked he went 10-6  straight to the playoffs with Nick Foles at quarterback his first year as a head coach, and went to top 5 offenses in both his first two years as a head coach. HC =/= OC.

True. Some people would argue that maybe it took the NFL a year to figure him out.

I personally think the potential of having him as OC could be sky high. He clearly is an offensive genius....we haven't seen quite the results in the NFL yet as we have seen in college but if he can just set his time aside for only the OC and dedicate himself to that.....

With Coughlin and Marrone in control, Chip won't be able to hurt the team, he is only going to be able to help it.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Still doesn't mean he can't do what he can to influence the decisions.

So you're saying he would fit in in Jacksonville?

Exactly, it's low risk, high reward. The offense can't get any worse than it was last year, the only thing he can do is make us better or keep us the same. If it doesn't workout then we can just fire him anyway.

So you're saying Chip Kelly will somehow make Tom Coughlin his puppet  :teehee:

That's true, but he'll still be at best fourth on the totem pole behind Coughlin, Caldwell, and Marrone. Also there appears to be a mutual respect between both Coughlin and Kelly, so that could help minimize any strong-arming Chip would want to do here.

the 9ers had a top 10 running game by DVOA last season with the 9ers. Carlos Hyde had 988 yards and 6tds in 13 games with no passing game to benefit from.
