One of the things we spend a lot of time on at work is helping patients with big pharm bills to access the assistance programs offered by the industry. Most commercials even make reference now when you see things like Prolia or Rutuxxin, "If you need help paying just call 1-888, etc." Big pharm is doing some really good things to help people who need assistance, the programs are fairly easy to use and they'll even cover co-payments or co-insurances for folks who have high out of pocket costs after means testing. My current treatment regimen costs almost $5,000 a week, but my OOP after insurance and assistance is about $25.00. I have infusion every three weeks and about 9 bottles of pills that I have to fill monthly, plus 3 different specialist visits each week at $45 a pop, so they've been a big help to me personally.

Wow, that's quite a regimen and expense. Is that forever?

Btw, Big Drug is supposed to be evil.

If all goes well I'll be cured in time for the draft. Had some complications the last 8 weeks that put me off my plans for the holidays.

Thank you, I'm very fortunate. I've met several people the last few months for whom there isn't really any hope at all. It puts a lot of things into perspective.

Quote:It is. Then your insurance runs out and you're forced to choose between a $80 pill or battling through the pain. When you then find heroin is only $30 for a comparable hit with largely the same results the choice is made rather easy for you.

Correct.

When it was first released OXY was promoted as "not addictive", when in truth it was more addictive than cigarettes.

I point my accusatory finger of blame for this country's heroin and crystal meth epidemic directly at the manufacturer and the sales force.

Oxy and Meth aren't even in the same drug family.

I have to disagree. I live in a pretty drug heavy area (Google Fresno and Meth) and generally speaking the meth guys stick to the meth and the oxy guys stick to the oxy. The drugs act completely differently.

Maybe you could make a case that oxy leads to heroin I guess but from my view affluent guys do oxy and poor guys do heroin and they stick to it pretty closely.

Overall, I'd say prescription pills are way more popular than "street" drugs.

If you want to talk about the REAL gateway drug, it's alcohol..........

Instead of a sign that says "Do Not Disturb" I need one that says "Already Disturbed Proceed With Caution."

But alcohol is legal to consume... so doesn't it make sense that every addict has probably started off being addicted to a legal and easily available product?

I just don't buy that alcohol use leads a person to other harder drugs that they wouldn't have stumbled upon regardless. Or maybe I just don't have a firm grasp on the definition of a gateway drug.

Considering the amount of people who consume alcohol on a regular basis, I´d say there´s bound to be a bunch of people in there who are bound to end up addicted to something. It´s just that alcohol is more easily available.

We are saying the same thing, I think.

It's like saying every millionaire started off with a minimum wage job. That doesn't mean a minimum wage job leads to being a millionaire, it just means almost everyone starts off with a minimum wage job.

Cigarettes lead to drinking, drinking leads to weed, weed leads to cocaine, cocaine leads to paranoia and an empty house.
