Akeem Ayers traded to Patriots

per rotoworld:

Akeem Ayers - LB - Titans

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans are trading OLB Akeem Ayers to the Patriots.
Related: Patriots

Jimb Wyatt reports the deal is contingent on Ayers passing his physical. CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the sides are simply swapping seventh-round picks. In other words, the Titans are giving up on a player who was a key cog on defense in 2011-13, but has been active just twice this season. Ayers has played only 10 snaps on defense in 2014. He underwent surgery on both knees last offseason, but has been healthy enough to play. In the final year of his rookie contact, Ayers is an extra body for a Pats D that's taken big hits to its linebacker corps.

I posted this response in the other thread in regards to a question about his lack of playing time.

For the Titans to be giving up on Ayers so early with such a high investment I'm thinking there must be something going on that Tennessee knows about and no one else does. That are they are really that dumb.

It is. Especially for so little compensation in return. Maybe those knee surgeries really did a number on him.

Ya, who knows.  Will be interesting to see this one play out.  Either way, it's a loss for the Titans.

They switched from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

At face value, he doesn't seem like a scheme fit.

Maybe he'll be a free agent after the season and he'll consider coming here.

or maybe for a 7th rounder we shoulda taken a shot? I usually don't like trading picks away, but in this case for a player that might be a scheme casualty and who was very good previously in a 4-3, giving away a 7th might have been a worthy gamble.

For 9 games from a good with bad knees? Nah.

I'm not trying to start this in a flame TMD thread, but I feel like if we would have made this trade you would have flipped and bashed the Jags.   The line would be something like, why are we giving up picks in a draft for a guy that had two knee surgeries, has been active for two games, and has only played two snaps?!

Pats run 3/4 though...

remember how he talked about how lee would probably never be the same after the knee injury?

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

They switched back?

For the longest time they were a 3-4 team, then inexplicably they switched to a 4-3 the past few years.

They are now back to a 3-4?

They run a hybrid.

I also thought he may have been a scheme casualty but if you check out the link I posted you'll see why that wasn't the case.
