***The official head coach search thread***

The teams would normally make?

Caldwell picked Gus Bradley who was a highly touted coordinator that this fanbase wanted. It didn't work out. No idea how one failure of a HC means we'll go with one of them. If anything, ownership/GM has showed we'll get the highly touted guy that will BOMB big time instead of a more proven candidate. Gus Bradley was the splash candidate last time.

We all see how that worked out. Who the hell cares if it's exciting or not. Like I said, we were all pumped for Seattle South in 2013.

Quote:Doug Marrone is a decent coach. I wish he had more time to prove to the higher ups that he could be the head coach for the Jaguars. Shad Khan didnt react quick enough and let Bradley play out way farther than it should have. After the Thursday Night debacle, Bradley should of been out the door. That was Doug Marrones chance to prove what hes got. That would of been enough time to judge him and see what he can do with the team. Unfortunately we were stuck with Bradley and after 9 miserable games later which we lost all of them, Bradley got fired and Marrone got 2 games as the interim head coach to baby sit.

Thats not enough time or enough to convince me that he would be a good head coach. All I see is a solid coach who blew a chance last time he was a head coach. I wish he got a more extensive period as the interim head coach. But he didnt and it costed him a real chance at being the head coach here.

When you look at the Doug Marrone situation, you have to compare it to the Gus Bradley era. We went 14-48 under him, hiring one of his coordinators is a tough tough sell to the fanbase. Its showing that you dont want change. Let me tell you, they hire Doug Marrone, and I can promise you they would have a disaster of an offseason selling tickets. They are already going to have a time time energizing the fanbase after last season no matter who the head coach is. But I can promise you hiring from within IS NOT the way to go.

It isnt just about the coach. Khan knows this, they have got to turn the corner and move on. Fans want change, team needs change and the owner needs both.

Ill go out on a limb and say Dough Marrone will not be the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I would agree.  My stance is Khan is a business man.  And if you change your gm even for two weeks.  And production increases into sales.  That shows the product can be sold with the pieces in place.  So why it is great to shop around for other potentials.  At end of the day Khan was impressed with Tenn and first half of Indy.  Just needs to hear alot more will be replaced to have the hottest selling product on the market.

And yet if a new fresh idea has things that sparks interest. Only then would they go in a different direction.  So in essence.   It is Doug's job to lose.

So now if he can show his marketing plan can be even better and the end result alot more revenue aka wins.  Then he is our new coach.  Especially with the reference of a super bowl winning coach.

Quote:How'd he blow his chance? He got the Bills turned around and left when he had a chance to opt-out which looks like a genius move with that joke of an ownership/gm situation.
Very odd to walk out on your team as an NFL head coach. That will carry over and people will be questioning that for a long time.

That's why he got interviewed by NYJ last year and LA requested to interview him and if NO deals Payton they want Marrone to be their HC?

I really don't think so. A normal situation? Sure. A situation where the owner fires a coach with the GM not being privy to their conversation and making the interim HC go out and take all the questions on why Ryan was fired is all that needs to be said. I'd want no part of that either.

We need to hire a coach like Bud Kilmer from Varsity Blues. He will win games no matter the cost and won't tolerate Bortles drinking.

The ownership fired a coach, benched a QB for financial reasons and forced Rex to do it or they'd fire him (so they fired him), and haven't come out to the Buffalo media once to help the interim HC in Lynn or GM Doug Whaley with anything. Like seriously, that place is a dumpster fire.

Quote:Todd Haley is an offensive mind with HC experience. Terryl Austin we've had interest in. etc.

Who knows? Just saying I wouldn't be so sure that we are done interviewing Saturday.
This list has the HC tracker http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000...news-moves

Todd Haley isnt even on it, Terrell Austin is on it, they have chargers and rams listed

I dont want Todd Haley anyways

Bklyn,

if you would indulge me please and answer the question I posed on the other page, I'd be greatly appreciative.

So because we haven't requested yet we can't like him?

All i'm saying is to not expect a resolution by Tuesday or whenever you said. Some coaches may get 2nd interviews. Some coaches may come up late in the process, etc. There's a chance we interview more than we have. We also haven't herd when Anthony Lynn's interview is, could be next week for all we know.

Quote:@annieheilbrunn Bucs DC Mike Smith expected to be in San Diego today to interview for vacant head coaching job with #Chargers, I'm told.

Please hire him Chargers.

No Fun

Quote:Please hire him Chargers.
I would be sad.

You realize McDaniels is rumored to love the SF job because he can build it his way and Kyle Shannahan wants to work where his dad did and is eyeing Denver?

Mike Smith is the clear cut 3rd best guy at worst right now.

Quote:But why do you associate Mike Smith with "average" and "boneheaded?"

He had one more winning season in Atlanta (in one fewer years coaching) than Coughlin had here.

He took the Falcons as far as Coughlin took the Jaguars-the Conference championship game.

He coached the Falcons to their first ever back to back winning seasons in franchise history.

Were the Giants "boneheaded" and okay with average when they hired TC?

Belichick did not have Smith's track record of success in Cleveland. Was New England okay with mediocrity by hiring him?

I wouldnt say bonheaded with Mike Smith but just not with this team needs. His playoff record speaks for itself. He also had a stacked team. Hes not going to have a Matt Ryan here. We need a offensive coach.

Mike Smith going to SD is just a formality. He is our next HC whether you like it or not.

Will you guys let me know when we hire somebody...and preferably who it is?

Have you seen my baseball?

Agreed, like i said its him or Marrone.

So what does McDaniels record in the regular season while getting fired yr 2 mean? That has to be much worse than whatever you are hinting at with Mike Smith.

As for ATL, that wasn't a stacked team. They had a very solid offense but that defense lacked talent big time. Had a few guys but that was it.

You know, I don't all the hate one Mike Smith. I think he would be a decent head coach for us. But I still want Josh McDaniels.

Smith was 66 - 44

First 5 season were winning records and 4 playoff appearances but only won one playoff game.

I feel like Mike Smith is Caldwells guy from Atl the safety net pick and its boring, but not terrible. Shannahan,McDaniels even Goodwin is more intriguing for me, Todd Haley if they interview him would be another nice one.

No Fun

Mcdaniels has done nothing. In the past as HC. Yall act like if Gus went to NE and did well. Ya all would love Gus back. Makes zero sense.
