***The official head coach search thread***

Quote:Dave Caldwell is on a very short leash. I started a threat about this about whether he should be fired or not. It overwhelmingly was in favor of him staying. However, this guy is one bad spell away from getting thrown to the curb. If this team sucks next year, hes gone. Why not take a chance with an experienced coach like Tom? Who can also groom a coordinator while hes here. I dont see Kyle Shanahan or McDaniels really wanting this job because theres no stability. GM could be fired and they could go with him unless they seriously turn this team around in a season. Obviously Denver is a more attractive landing spot which is why Shanahan might look their first and McDaniels already screwed up 1 head coaching gig, you dont get too many second chances at it.

I think Tom Coughlin or Mike Smith make the most sense. Two veteran coaches with tons of experience who can easily shape the team the way they want and hopefully, get this thing turned around in the right direction. Which is what the Jaguars need, we all want a Super Bowl, but lets focus on competing in the NFL first. Lets start competing for the division and trying to push for a playoff spot before we try and look for the homerun.

For many reasons,   including some that you touched on,  in an ideal world Tom Coughlin would make the most sense of the viable HC options the Jacksonville Jaguars have.    You made some real good points,  including getting the franchise back to the competing level.

As a reference point,   I'm going to use my favorite team as an illustration.  Many LIons fans and some media members  are upset that Jim Caldwell will remain the team's HC for the 2017 season.   They aren't satisfied with the team making the playoffs under Coach Caldwell 2 out of the last 3 seasons.   They point to the ending of this season,  w/o putting enough weight on injuries,  the last 3 opponents,  and the overall roster.    They want the organization to go for a Home Run instead of staying the current course.   After the 2000 season,  the Lions went for Home Runs hiring Matt MIllen as GM,  who hired then SF 49ers OC Marty Mornhinweg as HC.   It led to the worst decade of football an NFL team had in the modern era and probably in NFL history.   IMO,  most of the people who called for Jim Caldwell to be let go have very little perspective.

Getting back to the Jaguars,  as much as Coughlin makes sense on the surface,  he would need to be on the same page as Dave Caldwell.   Otherwise,  it would be no sense to hire him and keep Caldwell.    If Coughlin doesn't fit,   another NFL HC with proven winning experience would seem like a criteria the Jaguars should choose from if everything else is remotely close.
