Quote:I've said before, my only concern with hiring Marrone is the possibility of keeping the defensive staff in place.

If he gets a new DC, I'd be perfectly fine with it.

Our defense was very good. What's wrong with keeping Wash? Just cause Ramsey is a little salty? Ramsey is always a little salty.

I just don't get it the players are speaking out agaisnt the staff and they are gonna hire Marrone. They just ended the season blowing a big lead and doing nothing in the second half.
No Fun

Quote:I hope they hire Marrone just to see Bklyn's meltdown.

He will meltdown regardless because no way we hire McDaniels. I prefer what's best for the team (Mike!).

Marrone is a meh hire. Kill the hype before it starts must be the goal. A lot of coaches must be down on Bortles(figured that), which is why Marrone is the favorite now. And a lame duck GM. Yay!

Whenever a team struggles-especially on offense-there is usually a clamor at some point for the backup to get playing time.

Here, the call wasn't so much for Henne, but for Allen.

But despite the fact those in charge felt he clearly wasn't qualified to take over the starting spot at this early stage of his career (and he probably wasn't especially considering his low draft point), nobody asserted he was part of the problem.  Even if he felt he could help the team, the decision not to play him and the decisions where to throw and not to throw the ball were out of his hands.  He escaped blame, even though he couldn't beat out a Bortles struggling mightily for whatever reasons, and Henne, who most would agree just plain stinks.

My question is why doesn't this absolution dynamic apply to assistant coaches stuck under an inept head coach?   In other words, why do people feel Marrone was part of the problem here?

Now granted as an OL coach he likely has more influence over the fate of  the team than a rookie 3rd string QB that never gets off the bench.  He has to develop the young linemen, and he has to help devise the blocking schemes needed for the offense to function.  But sacks allowed dropped by nearly 20 from the 51 allowed in 2015.  Furthermore, because of his role on the coaching staff, he wasn't able to make decisions on things that might have helped improve team performance.  When Bradley was finally and mercifully (for Jaguars fans) dismissed, Marrone was given the opportunity to make those decisions that had the potential to improve team performance.  He insisted on no food/shades/hoodies during meetings and emphasized winning instead of simply getting better.  The results were clear.  The team performed better overall in the two games under Marrone than they did in any other two game stretch, even in the loss to the Colts.  Several players have remarked on the differences.  Finally, reports came out about a Super Bowl winning coach giving Marrone an endorsement.

The point is maybe, just maybe, Marrone wasn't part of the problem.

Perhaps Marrone was handcuffed by circumstance of his position which precluded him from being the solution the team needs.

Perhaps we should dial down the panic in the first week in January over an interview with a guy who has proven to be a pretty decent coach.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

Quote:Marrone is a head scratcher if you choose him then why not fire gus sooner for more tryout games? And if its Marrone he's probably keeping Hackett.

But hopefully this changes when they interview others hell I'd take Mike Smith over Marrone. Marrone is the worst choice we have.

See I would think, if you want to Sell Marrone to fans and players, less is more. Most things are easier to sell when you haven't actually seen it.

Wash sucks. Nothing he did this season was impressive, our defense is just really talented. Wash is a Gus clone and is extremely conservative. It would be a joke to keep Wash.

If they keep Wash, the new HC had better be in his ear early and often about how and when they play zone, especially prevent / deep cover 4.

The second half in Indy laid bare that weakness in Wash's play-calling and it wasn't the first time.

I also envision a more capable DC being able to scheme more to his roster's strengths and game-plan more to his opponents weaknesses than Wash.

If Mariota didn't get hurt, the Titans probably would have made a comeback as well. I agree with the sentiment of getting a more aggressive, creative DC. Wash is just a guy.

I'm going to wait and see.  Honestly nothing I can do about any of it.  The sinking feeling I have is nothing is going to improve.  The measures and ways we have done things for the past 2 years (That is being generous) have been results neutral.  It sure seems like they (Owner and Front Office) are going to put validation of their way of doing things above the bottom line business of winning.

All I can do is suffer through 2017.  We will see.  My feelings are my own and the team will either turn it around or it will be more of the same.

A classic case of coaching "not to lose" as opposed to the opposite. They shut Indy the entire game playing aggressive man coverage for the most part, and inexplicably decide to go to a soft zone when the game is on the line. I'm not a fan of coaches who coach "scared", scared to give up the big play when the game is in the line. Stick to your bread and butter

When is the Shanhan interview today? Its weird how we didnt hear a peep about Moke Smith/Goodwin interviews but heard about Marrone.

They'd probably prefer you (we)  hear of nothing at all, but since Marrone is local and known to many in the community, it's not weird at all that some news/rumor leaked of his interview.

Who's Moke?

I would question that as well...The ultimate authority for who plays and how the scheme works is up to the HC

I saw something I think from Fowler who said something like the players were told to NOT jump routes and only to do their assigned task on each play, so in essence if Folwer's assignment was to set the edge to stop the run and the offense ran a passing play, he was not supposed to pull up and pick up the receiver running into the flats to try and make a play or jump the route if they threw a short 3 yard pass to the sideline...

In other words Gus's scheme was not a read and react defense it was designed as a dedicated spot and assignment for each position. and the assistant coaches had no control over that

Quote:Same owner that wants to keep the GM, so I’m not surprised he wants to continuity with Marrone & Co.

Ownership should take this fanbase into consideration, fans will not be happy with a Marrone hire (at least the smart ones)
Dave have hit on players and missed on players just like every GM in the NFL he missed on Gus, now he has one more shoot. Khan has done so much for this franchise and the city, to  say he should sell the team is the most idiotic thing you can say.

Most GMs get two HC's, we havent even hired a HC yet and your crying about the team needed to be sold, dude chill out

Everyone else pretty much answered this for me. I like Wash, but he's nothing special. Ready to move on from that Seattle Leo nonsense

The players spoke out about Gus and his lack of winning philosophy. The players have already begun harping on how much different Marrone is when compared to Gus.

Yeah, a lot of players have said they would like Marrone to get the job from what I've heard
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

This team is going to have a really really really difficult time energizing this fanbase this offseason.
