I think Marrone has a good shot.   General Managers, like everyone else, have a hard time admitting they were completely wrong about anything.  Firing the entire coaching staff and starting over with all new systems and maybe a new QB would mean Caldwell would have to admit he was wrong about everything.  That's why there will be some bias towards continuity.   Especially if Caldwell thought the team was close to turning the corner and only fired Gus reluctantly. 

 

That said, that doesn't mean Marrone will be a bad head coach.  I wouldn't mind him all that much.  He's about my third choice.

Ok, I'll make a quick cameo to ask the actual question that is being begged. Why in the world have you all had to spend the last 10 pages arguing about Marrone? We have had him on our staff for two years now, under potentially the worst HC of all time. Out of all of the HC options to be discussing Marrone should be the one that there should be absolutely zero questions about. .......

Marrone being here two years certainly gives him a leg up up being familiar with the players. What I wonder is how he could see all the dumb stuff gus was doing and stay quiet about it.....is there some unwritten rule you let the guy above you do stupid stuff?  :turned:

Don't worry, if Marrone doesn't work out we will have a brand new HC around 2021 or so.

Anything is better than keeping someone from our current staff. Keeping Marrone would be like someone bragging how they got you the best Christmas gift. You get really excited and the anticipation builds. Finally on Christmas you open that gift and find out it's a pair of socks taken from your own sock drawer. O'Brien wouldn't be my first choice, but he's done a good job with what he's had to work with. I'd be o.k. with him. 

Marrone has had success as a head coach in college and with the Bills. Just becasue he was on Gus's staff has nothing to do with what he will do as head coach. I would like Mike Smith but to  bash Marrone with no factual information other then an opinion that in some way Gus and Marrone would follow the  same coaching style when head Coach is just speculation.

Well, I've been my own boss for 22 years now, but I appreciate it when an employee offers something he thinks will help.

I do think Marone should keep Hackett as well....

If they can get even marginal Improvement from Blake and keep hurns and our running backs healthy....
