Cleveland matches Jags offer for Mack

People like to complain that they don't like the thread being derailed onto the subject of TMD, but it's not just TMD doing it.

Quote:Well, he apparently has legions of fans.  No wonder his ego has gotten so big.

So he tells us.  He also tells us how smart he is.  I think I've pointed out what that usually means.

Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Quote:I disagree....this thread could have ended with everyone happy (had the Jags prevailed and gotten Mack) ....well, other than the few Cleveland fans....but everyone is miserable because the Jags failed again. Thats the root.
The Jags had X amount of money left under the cap. Cleveland had more. Their owner said Mack WOULD be retained. This isn't rocket science.

There's no reason to turn this into a Jag failure unless you're just in the mood to be a horse's [BLEEP].

What lies behind us, and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

The fact that you claim it to be a failure is so shortsighted it's laughable.

Looking to troll? Don't bother, we supply our own.

Just a guess here.

Quote:not sure what people are complaining about. We offered what is the top salary for that position. The Browns decided to match it, which was within their rights. Now they have the highest paid centre in football. I dont see what more we could have done. You cant ridiculously overpay for 1 position. The offer was obviously good. The Browns logically didnt want to lose a pro bowl player. We're targeting the right players. Mack obviously wanted to come here. We've made some brilliant moves in the offseason, we just got guzzuped on this one so we move on.

Would have been fantastic to get him, but its over now. I'm looking forward to the draft. Are there any more centres available in free agency?

Citing "offering "top salary" is kinda obvious though, isn't it? Anyone who made an offer for Mack was going to have to do that. The Cap going up as it is every year will ensure that this so called top salary will only likely last maybe a year, until the next "top highest" Center is crowned anyway.....

This contract only beat out the current top highest by a little bit, anyway.

It seems like window dressing more than anything.

You can't judge in this business off of "effort" only. Its a results oriented business, sorry to say. We simply didn't get it done. again.

Quote:Despite what people like TMD are saying, that was a hell of an offer. Almost too much.
It was too much, the only reason that I was OK with it is because we got a good 3 years before we start thinking about losing any core players.

Cleveland is gonna be in a tight spot in 2-3 years, although I don't blame them for not letting him walk and get nothing.

Quote:I think you underestimate miserable philly fans.  Their team has enjoyed more success then a lot of others...  But still miserable.

Their teams largely suck and rarely win Championships. What are you talking about?

Nobody is miserable, except probably you. We're actually happy in the direction the team is headed. That probably drives you nuts too.

TMD knows exactly what he is doing ytraM (damn, do you have to spell your name backwards  Smile).  This is why they call people trolls.  Ultimately trolls get banned which he has many times.  And trolls are good at doing just this.  Maybe he is a Jag fan, but you still would have a hard time convincing me he isn't a troll.

I think you are overestimating that Cleveland will be in a tight spot in 2-3 years. They are in great fiscal shape now, and the Cap is still going up 5 - 10 MIL every year for at least the next 5 years. They'll be able to sign all of the players they need to and still have plenty left over.

Nobody in the league saw this move as "window dressing."  It was a serious effort to land a good player without breaking the bank.  In the end, we forced Cleveland to make Mack the highest paid center in the league, and now we move on.

To call it that just shows what an ignoramus you actually are.  You set these ridiculously high bars for a team you're not even a fan of.  You should consider doing the same for yourself.  Maybe you won't be begging people on the board for career advice to get you out of the kitchen.

Football, which is what we are discussing.  That is what I follow.  Their football team has had a good amount of success recently.  What are you talking about?

It does drive me nuts that more people aren't results oriented on here.

Being happy at a "perceived" direction of the team can easily be folly.

I'll be happy once the results prove out that the so called "good direction" is accurate.

I am fully convinced that this board (and possibly calling sports radio) is the only human interaction he gets.

Some Browns fans are acting as if this is how Cleveland planned it all along. One guy said 'can't believe we got him for only 8 million per!' So.. You didn't think you could get him for a record high number? Donkey.
Only a chump boos the home team!

This is such a naive viewpoint on what is going to happen over the next several years.  You have absolutely no idea what Cleveland's situation is going to be over the next 5 years.  To act like you do is laughable.

Someone said something about philly fans being miserable. I mentioned it being because their sports teams generally disappoint. They have four of them, you know. Its a year round thing there, not just football.

So why would you be happy with the Mack signing?  Ultimately, you can't be happy until you see results.  We can't see results until season starts.  There are no guarantees on wins/losses regardless of who you sign.  Or you just doing what you always do and making this fit into your argument/agenda?
