They probably don't even need me to post to reach 100.

Well, you're at least partially right.  That happens accidentally on occasion.

We gave the max value, and the Browns were forced to pay it (which they weren't going to do otherwise.)

And despite the money, he's got the opportunity to walk away after two years.

It's probably going to happen, too.  They showed zero respect for him by putting him through this unnecessary process, and that's likely to strain an already poor relationship with a player who clearly wanted out.

"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."

Quote:Much respect to Caldwell and the jags brass for this attempt to get Mack. This deal will resonate with the rest of the league because it gave the player everything he could ask for. Guaranteed money, an ability to void, the inability to be traded and the inability to be tagged. Players can't ask for much more

True.  It covered it all.  Worst case, he has his money and two years to find a new home.  It gives him control in a situation where he began with absolutely none.

"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."

Well who's a FA next year? lol. Looks like we may be having a rookie QB and a rookie center. The people who touch the ball the most will be the least experienced. Look forward to growing pains

I'm pretty sure this was the reason for signing Henne, and the reason Caldwell expects any QB we draft, as he puts it, to "sit back and watch a little bit."

"You do your own thing in your own time. You should be proud."

Not terribly upset.

THERE IS A SKELETON INSIDE OF YOU.

RIGHT NOW. THIS IS NOT A JOKE.

pathetic.

Quote:Actually it won't resonate because the Jaguars won't be willing to do this with every FA that they decide to bring in. Nor should they. This was just a one shot deal that we failed on. Sucks, because Mack would have been a great addition.

Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

doing my part

We can make it!

Also, I really despise Cleveland right now.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">And the ending affirms the unconventional strategy used by Browns General Manager Ray Farmer.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">Mack’s visit with and subsequent offer from the Jaguars was his right under terms of the seldom-used transition tag, which guaranteed Mack a one-year salary of $10.039 million. Had Farmer given Mack the franchise tag, at a cost of only $1.6 million more, Mack wouldn’t have had any leverage to negotiate a longer-term contract and the Browns would have secured two first-round draft picks in compensation if Mack left.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">In the end, the deal jointly negotiated by Mack and the Jaguars pays him $10 million in 2014 and $8 million in 2015. So that $9 million average is below what Mack could have received if he had played this season under the transition tag and then gone through the process again and perhaps received the franchise tag (which would be more than $12 million) next year.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">Perhaps the biggest favor done by the Jaguars, however, is keeping the contract free of any bonus money. For example, if Mack opts out after two years, the Browns would face no bonus acceleration charge on their salary cap.

<p style="color:rgb(51,51,51);font-family:Verdana;font-size:12px;">Asked what the Jaguars could have done within league rules to get the Browns not to match, the source said, "Guarantee the whole deal for five years."

Well....that certainly doesn't sound flattering to our side...

no it doesn't seem flattering.  But how do you think the Jags will be looked at in the future after doing this for Mack.  Instead of the Mario Williams of the world going to other teams first they will slowly start looking and coming to Jags first knowing there is a GM that will work with them and be fair when doing the deal.  The Jags are slowly but surely becoming a player in FA again. Say what you will but Bradley and Caldwell are a good team.

This is something that will actually pay off later.

Now go get Stork and stop worrying about all this Mack stuff.

Conveniently, you did what you normally do, cherry picking the pieces from the article, ignoring the paragraph outlining what the Jags would have needed to do to have a different outcome.

The joke here isn't the effort of the front office. It's you and your pathetic agenda.

Obviously Mack and his agent thought this may have been a good enough deal or they would not have signed it. I don't get why everyone is bashing on the terms an saying how "laughable" they are. It is a good deal for the Jags and great deal for Mack. He will be out of Cleveland in 2 years which is probably the closest point in which they will become relevant again (assuming they find a QB).

The dude's a joke.  No surprise coming from ESPN.  Just surprised that you'd buy into anything an ESPN hack said.  <i>And disappointed</i>.

From Fox Sports:

But we said everyone wins here. And Jacksonville did, too. For years, the Jags have been battling against the perception they're not a prime destination in the NFL. The fact they haven't been consistently competitive for a while is both a result of that belief and a contributing factor to it. Yet, Mack identified the Jaguars as a team for which he'd like to play. From the sound of things, he was uncertain on the plane ride there. By the time he was heading home to California, following meetings with energetic coach Gus Bradley, general manager Dave Caldwell and others, he was sold on the future of the Jags.

I was wrong about Trent Baalke.

What I still don't understand is, if this deal is so great for the Browns, and Mack was willing to sign it, how come the Browns couldn't have done this themselves?    Are the Browns that incompetent?

Are you serious? The diva would buy ANYTHING from ANY source that allows him to take shots at the Jaguars because that's what he thinks real "fans" do. The credibility of the source is irrelevant if it serves his agenda to get more attention for himself.
