Quote:Where do you see Victor Martinez numbers end of season?

25 HR .320 sound fair? That is a steal for guys getting drafted in the 12th round. Also, which of his peripherals do you think point to huge regression? I don't think he is to hit 40 homer HRs, but the guy is a good hitter and can very well win the AL batting title. Steal.

Quote:For awhile there you seemed to think V Mart's power was going to continue on pace.

Had it, I would have absolutely assumed steroids.

That post was before we even made the "top 72" bet. I never expected VMart to stay on pace for 40.

right.....but as he kept exceeding those initial pace/ expectations I remember you having the attitude like it was going to continue (as there seemed no end in sight at that time (right before AS break)

Really wish you had talked me into J.D. Martinez though.

Price traded to Detroit.

Nothing more than anecdotal evidence, but Just going by your tone in the threads....

Do you not remember our debates back and forth? When VMart was continuing to defy his normal paces, and I kept insisting that it couldn't continue for much longer, given his seasonal averages/ norms (without steroids anyway), you seemed adamant that because he was only a DH and didn't have the added pressure of Catcher duties that there was nothing stopping those numbers from continuing.

The Tigers now have a legitimate claim to one of the best pitching staffs of all time.

2011 Cy young winner: Verlander

2012 Cy young winner: Price

2013 Cy young winner: Scherzer

Granted that Verlander and Scherzer aren't pitching at their Cy-Young levels, they were both pretty lights out in the playoffs last year. Then throw in Sanchez who could be an Ace on other teams and Porcello to anchor the rotation? Just awesome.

Man I'm really confused now. Tigers are smart and A's are dumb.

LOL, yeah......losing Austin friggin Jackson from the lineup is the same as losing Cespedes. Laughing

I guess you aren't as bright as I assumed you were.

And Price >>> Lester. Lester is having a good year but lets not pretend he is or was ever as good as David Price.

This is Lester's best year statistically and the others aren't that close.

And yet the A's pitching staff may be better.

I hope we get to see them face off in the ALCS.

The A's staff is solid, but come on now.

1. Scherzer and Price are both better than any pitcher in the A's rotation.

2. Shark and Sanchez are pretty equal.

3. Porcello > Hammel.

So the only edge Oakland has is whoever you call their #3 guy (Kazmir or Gray) over Verlander.

You are underestimating the value of aces come playoff time. In a 7 game series, 4 games are going to be started by Scherzer and Price. That is huge.

Without Cespedes, watch Oakland not even make the ALCS....

The Phillies just assumed they'd make it far in the playoffs when they had that rotation of Lee, Halladay, Oswalt and Hamels...and then lost to the Cardinals in the opening round because they didn't have enough hitting. As a matter of fact once the Phillies lost Burrell and Werth and never replaced them, they aint won [BAD WORD REMOVED].

Same with the Braves....for all the hoopla over their great pitching staff in the 90's....they managed to only win a single world series out of a run that should have conceivably totaled 4 or 5 world series titles for them....because they too, weren't good enough with the bats.

Now Detroit only gave up Austin Jackson to get Price, so thats not really all that big of a loss. That can be managed. Jackson was hitting better lately but has had a down season overall anyway.

I got on here to pose the question. A's or Tigers rotation.

I'd take the A's rotation right now over Detroit's if I had to pick one.

Cespedes is the game changer for the A's.
