I wanted us to get him last year when he hit the open market, but the Patriots ended up resigning him.. I'd love to get him in a Jags uni.

Unlike last year when Aqib Talib was still proving himself from a character/ reliability standpoint after his numerous incidents in Tampa Bay,  Talib likely will be able to command a high price multi-year contract.    When healthy,  Talib was a difference maker with the Patriots.   They saw that first hand when Talib got injured in the last two AFC Championship games and their Defense suffered greatly as a result.   

 

Yet,  it still gets back to the question,  can Talib be trusted if he signs a long term contract with a large amount of guaranteed money?   Outside of the Patriots environment,   the risk seems high.

Yeah, he's a free agent. I love him as a player, but I don't know that I'd want him on the huge-money deal he's going to command. For one, he's a massive risk in terms of character. This is a guy who allegedly partnered with his mom in shooting his sister's boyfriend. He was acquitted, I know, but that's hardly the only run-in he's had with the law. I'm of the opinion that he behaved in New England because he had to to keep his career going and get to this point. Once he's got a $35M+contract in his hands (Brent Grimes signed a 4-year, $32M contract today, so I'm guessing that's the floor for Talib), I wouldn't trust him to keep it on the straight and narrow anymore.

 

The secondary concern is that he's 28. Not past his prime at all, but certainly in it. The Revis deal in Tampa Bay, and how he underachieved last season, is at the forefront of my mind when dealing with corners who are already in their prime.
