Those are all terrible examples. Each team you listed had a starting QB and was drafting backups or competition. Those franchises weren't tying their wagons to Foles, Keenum, Wilson, or Brady at moment they were drafted. For every successful QB drafted after round 1 there are dozens that amounted to absolutely nothing. Obviously a first round pick is a gamble, but the odds of finding a franchise QB later are clearly much, much lower. Caldwell will not be stupid enough to risk his job and the future of this franchise by putting off the QB position and just hoping for the best.

Cannot fault that strategy under those circumstances. Almost got them a Super Bowl in addition to having the best record in the NFC.

 

Well, its one of those things that are high-risk/high-reward. We are seeing Atlanta's lack of depth right now. Maybe no one would care if they managed to reach the SB and win, but they didn't. Also, they traded those picks for a WR, which was one of the criticisms at the time. Since then, the Falcons have tried different guys at DE. Even now, they still don't have bonafide players at DE. And yes, hindsight is 20/20, but keep in mind that Julio Jones was taken ahead of two stud DEs in Aldon Smith and JJ Watt.

Well the point is that Dave was very much involved in the decision making during the Jones trade-up scenario. Based on Dave's own comments (explaining the logic of it in-detail) and Dimitroff himself saying he was involved...I think that is enough proof that yes, Dave was very much in support of that deal they made.
