August 16th 1977. Yeah, the world may remember this as the day Elvis died, but what I remember most is being with my Dad in the Governor Thomas Johnson High School parking lot practicing my parallel parking in a 1969 Chevrolet Impala in preparation on getting my drivers license. Now, for those of you not familiar with a 69 Impala, they were a TANK of a car. Not one of these small little death traps that people zing around in today. This thing had some steel to it. And it's a good thing I learned how to drive, and park a tank of a car because I took my final driving test in a 1965 Oldsmobile Delta 88, another tank of a car. Yeah, we had REAL BIG gas guzzlers back then, but then again, gas was only 68 cents a gallon so...... This was way before the OPEC oil embargo of 1979/1980. God we had some fun back in those days...... I miss my big cars.....
You know trouble is right around the corner when your best friend tells you to hold his beer!!
