It is also stout/porter season here for me.

I have not spent any time on Irish whiskies outside of the standard issue Jameson's and Bushmills. Jameson's always treats me right.

What's Willett?

Can't go wrong with Macallan 12.

In the whiskey world I actually have been veering away from the bourbon a bit more lately in favor of Scotch (Glenmorangie) and some better single pot still Irish whiskies. (Green Spot, RedBreast 12, and Powers-John's Lane 12)

Today however, is a bloody mary day.  Today I'm sprucing up my zing-zang mix with some horseradish, wasabi powder, chipotle powder, citrus, olives and a dash of louisiana hot sauce.

So a few friends and I went to a Hipster-type Brew House recently. I'm used to buying pints of beer in our pubs... this place sold half pints, all of which were IPA at around 7% alcohol... however, they were all no less than £5 ($7) for a HALF PINT!! I love IPA, but I'm not sure I'll be going to this place again..

And the place was likely full with 20 somethings thinking nothing of spending $14- for a pint. Best thing I did- joined the Elks, then lobbied my local lodge to add a single tap of a good beer (we got Harpoon IPA) to the Coors Light, Bud Light, etc taps. Now I soak up all I want at $3.50/pint.

Willett is a Kentucky bourbon and rye distillery.  Known for a "reserve pot still"  whiskey.

Never had Willett- went out and got a review (I don't know anything about the reviewer so...grain of salt):
https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-style...bourbon-2/

The bottle is very attractive, looks like the perfect gift for my bourbon drinking friend- the bottle, not the whisky, I think I will keep the whiskey and pour in Early Times, he won't know. J/K.

I assume that's a cork extending down into the bottle with the idea of keeping it moist? Or is it some space-age technology that I have missed? A wi-fi hotspot?

Recently added to my liquor cabinet. Four Roses never lets me down and Jefferson's isn't bad sipping for the price. I usually prefer anejo but the El Mayor resposado is not bad.

It's just an adhesive seal on the outside of the glass. The other photo is a bit of an illusion.

I'm not a four roses guy, but I really like your other choices.

If you feel like branching out on the anejos for slightly less dough, give the Gran Centenario Anejo and/or the Cazadores Anejo a try. They are about $33 and $38 respectively for a 750 bottle. Should be pretty comparable to the El Mayor.

I used to drink Herradura and Don Julio teqilas more often until the G.P. got hip to the fact that they were better than the heavily mass-marketed Patron brand and the prices jumped up. (on the east coast anyway)

The Jefferson's label is interesting, they don't have a distillery but instead find small batches from various distilleries to purchase and label.

Ever since a former co-worker from Oaxaca turned me on to Herradura years ago I've kept a bottle in my cabinet, along with a Gran Centenario. I'll give Cazadores a try.

Big fan of Gran Centenario.

My friend had some Jefferson's Ocean which was pretty good- I don't have the sophistication to detect "notes" of this or "notes" of that but I can detect "pretty good" which it was. The back story is that Jefferson's ages the ocean bourbon at sea and according to the article cited, the bourbon crosses the equator 4 times (so it must be good):

https://thewhiskeywash.com/whiskey-style...a-bourbon/

It can run $80-90/bottle. Confused

We did some 'ritas on the patio last night as well.

Fired up the charcoal grill and slathered some chicken thighs in garlic, cumin, and chili powder.  Pulled that meat for some tacos.  T'was perfecto.

Dos Equis was BOGO at Publix this week. I now have a healthy supply in my cupboards.

I had a bad margarita at Logans, which accompanied perfectly a bad prime rib.

No matter, my spirits were high after a great show in a cavern by Steve Earle and the Dukes. Bad food and liquor couldn't ruin my night.
