Vontaze Burflict 5 game suspension

#1

Call me crazy, but how is that hit illegal?  He hit the guy with his shoulder in the chest.

The guy was going across the middle.  No head to head contact.

Because he has a prior long history of cheap shots so EVERYTHING will be reviewed by this man. But I agree, it looked like a clean hit.

Perfectly legal hit but his past has him under the microscope.

I understand his past, and I agree that he's a complete dirt bag, but that doesn't mean that a legal hit should cost a guy 5 games.

He wont be. Not on that hit at least.

It was quite the punk shot though.

It's funny how things changed.  10-15 years ago that "punk shot" was the norm.  If you crossed the middle you knew you were going to get hit.

Now if you get hit crossing the middle anywhere below the waist or above the head its a suspension for the defensive guys.  It's almost becoming to where if you are a great athlete and an up and coming player, don't go to the defensive side of the ball.  It's a no win situation for you because no matter what you do, you will get fined and suspended for hitting a guy.

I'm the last one to defend Burflict, but if you're going to get a guy for doing something illegal at least make it illegal.

Let's just put flags on these guys and call it a league. That seems to be where the NFL is headed anyway.

I bet this gets overturned after appeal.

Yup.

It's getting pretty bad. Hits like that used to be exactly what teams wanted out of their defensive players. There used to be "big hit" highlights every week on the sports shows. Now, the only time you see a "big hit" highlight is when they showcase a "he's gonna pay the penalty for that one", or "here comes a fine and suspension for that guy".

What happened to the days of defensive players delivering punishing hits for guys coming across the middle?

Pretty soon, defensive guys are gonna get fined for hitting someone "too hard". They are basically only going to be allowed to wrap up and drag a player to the ground. There's gonna be excessive force penalties/fines/suspensions sometime in the future. Book it.

Unfortunately only two games were overturned. It should have been all five. What's really bad is one of the three games he will miss is against the Texans. Wallbash
