If Bortles blows this game is he done?

#21

It's an uncomfortable catch-22.. Bortles give us the best chance for wins, and losses..

Yes he does. It's eerily similar to Blake's.

He has a windup like Blake, but that's about where their similarities end. As many have pointed out, Blake's inability to read defenses and throw with timing, anticipation, velocity, and accuracy is a bigger problem than the mechanics. Darnold appears to check all of those boxes at least, and his footwork is fine too.

Yeah he's got a hitch, it's not as bad as Bortles hitch from last year, but more like his continued hitch this year. Either way it's going to be something to strongly consider before drafting him. Guys that give that extra couple tenths of a second to the defender on their wind up have to be that much better than guys that have the proper throwing motion

What earthly good does pulling Bortles do anyway? Does anyone really believe Henne is the saviour? Maybe if Allen we still on the team, but as it is if Bortles melts down you just have to settle in and wait for a high draft pick...

It potentially saves 19 million if someone falls into his knee or sacks him the wrong way and something snaps or separates. Once the playoff chances are virtually over you gotta bench Blake.

Seeing a thread like this really makes me wonder when the bib brigade is going to grow up. I just saw on the NFL pregame show that Joe Flacco last year had 20 TDs and 15 ints. And it's not like he's had great stats his whole career. The difference is the Ravens have been good enough to still win a lot of games anyway.

Hopefully Marrone and co can actually make a winning game plan because the team has talent and a lot of teams have won plenty of games with QBs that throw ints.

How can you call anyone who criticizes Bortles a bib brigader. That is just laughable. 51 INTS over that last 46 games, under 60% competition percentage, the worst 3rd down competitions in the league, so on and so forth. If you think anyone who isn't ecstatic about Bortles is a bibber than you're just blind.

Criticism is one thing, even talking about him being benched the first game of the season is another.

If this staff benches a player because he will cost money IF he gets injured they need to hand in their contracts, go home and stay there. They have no business in football with that kind of thinking.

It's just the prudent thing to do if/when we fall out of contention. It would show a serious lack of judgement if you don't bench him and risk torpedoing next year before this one is even over because there is exactly zero reason to risk it and 19 million reasons not to risk it.

We won so I guess Blake gets a reprieve from the brigade. Don't lose faith, ladies. There's always next week.
Never argue with idiots. They drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Blake didn't turn the ball over and did lead to 12 points...now Myers is the question

There won't be a lot more opportunities for the bib brigade to really whine about him, unless it's "the Jags aren't dominant enough" stuff. The schedule isn't hard, and if the team can keep Bortles from messing up against the texans, his nemesis for his whole career, he'll be fine. Probably have a lot better stats down the road against lesser defenses, too.

lol The problem with that is that they've never played like this against a playoff team since the Del Rio years.

This isn't the NY Jets  - this is the Houston Texans, a team some people picked as a top 4 team in the entire league - and the Jags just absolutely destroyed them. Not only that, but until further notice, the Jaguars now have the best defense in the division by a country mile.
