Someone mentioned a while ago that this defense could be all time great. I think that's premature but it got me thinking about the best defenses. The first one I googled was the 2000 Ravens. This team is widely considered one of the top 3 defenses of all time. But how many of their games do you remember? Do you remember the Jags hanging 36 on them in week 2? Or how about the Titans dropping 23 on them in week 11? The Ravens were.... 7-4 through 11 games.

So a week 2 games where the team allows 35+? Then a week 11 game where the defense allows 24+? Sounds..... similar to another team. Take a look.

If the Jaguars finish the season atop the NFL in scoring defense, total defense, takeaways and sacks, they will become the first team to accomplish that in the Super Bowl era (1966), per Elias Sports Bureau.

The Steelers' Steel Curtain defenses didn't do it. Nor the 1985 Bears or the 2000 Ravens, generally regarded as the two best statistical defenses in NFL history.


Now, that's a big if and a tall order.

If I recall correctly, in the 2000 regular season, Tennessee was # 1 in some major categories in Defense. Including, the least amount of total yardage. The AFC Central had 2 top flight Defensive units that season.

And wasn't Taylor a rookie in 2000? I know he came out of Florida, in either 99 or 2000 as a first rounder.
