Don Carey was a huge asset on Special Teams for the Lions and had the versatility to be a backup Safety and Nickel Back. Tremendous football and overall character and in society.

Hopefully, Don Carey is fully recovered from the knee injury he suffered in the season ending game against the Packers.

I wish him and his family the best moving forward.

One of those moves that helps fill out the roster. Not bad. I would have liked to have seen them bring back Peyton Thompson though, oh well.

Special teams player and potential upgrade at back up safety. Was decent in spot starts in Detroit.

No, seriously, did you see our secondary in 2010? With Don Carey back there lighting it up at safety? I mean, CHAMPIONSHIP.

Lol, Gene Smith finally gets his 'I told you so.' Just take the small victories right?

Are you a new Jag fan? This can't be serious. This guy was straight terrible 8 years ago when he was here. Maybe we can get Jason Hill or Mike Thomas to fill out the ranks also.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Since he left he's become a quality ST player that also serves as depth at two different secondary positions. It's not a bad signing.

From prideofdetroit.com:

Carey, 31, has been a staple of the Detroit Lions special teams units for the last seven seasons. His skills as a gunner and on kickoff coverage has helped make Detroit’s coverage teams one of the best in the NFL.

Carey was actually named the team’s Special Teams MVP three years in a row, and will be a tough player to replace.

Funny how many folks are bashing this move and are completely clueless of the player's actual value.
