Drafttek's most recent mock

http://drafttek.com/2018-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1b.asp

I understand BAP drafting.

I also understand we arguably have a need at nickel, depending upon how you feel about Hayden.

But why in the world would we draft Oliver in the first?

Not knocking him as a player at all.

But why, with so many immediate impact players at positions of need at the board who are of equal or better ability?

The rest doesn't get any better.

Mason Rudolph lasting to middle of round 3? Uhhhhh I can't possibly see that happening.

For those curious:
Rd. 1 Isiah Oliver, CB, Colorado
Rd. 2 Anthony Miller, WR, Memphis
Rd. 3 Christian Sam, LB, ASU
Rd. 4 Mike White, QB, Western Kentucky
Rd. 6 Greg Gilmore, DL, LSU
Rd. 7 James Looney, DL, Cal

Plenty of head scratchers in that draft.

They have Hurst and Goedert going mid-third round. Seems pretty unlikely.

I'd be pretty unhappy with a Jags draft that went CB,WR out of the gate.
I like the Mike White pick in the fourth, and the LB in the 3rd makes some sense.
But I hope the Jags brass wait on selecting CB and WR.

The absence of an OL pick would be pretty frustrating also.

All mock drafts are dumb. Just one big guessing game.

I could see both dropping to the mid to late second round, at worst, primarily due to the deep and talented TE class last year.

But at that point, they would represent too great of a value to pass up.

I don't rate Oliver as a nickel guy but I have no problem with a corner in the first. Take Oline and whatever TE is left in the 3rd.

To me, drafting a cornerback in round 1 would be the most unlikely of all scenerios other than running back. They already have the best tandem in the league and both should be with the team for several more seasons. They paid Hayden to be the nickel or cornerback in case of injury. Miller in the 2nd is also a poor pick. This draft is loaded with receivers and they can get someone just as good in the 4th round. Oliver will be a good pro, but not with the Jaguars.

I think we can let this mock die.

Three weeks later....still shaking my head even with the changes.

http://www.drafttek.com/2018-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round1b.asp

To save the clicking and scrolling...

Rd 1 Joshua Jackson CB Iowa
Rd2  Dallas Goedert TE S Dak State
Rd 3  Simmie Cobbs WR Indiana
Rd 4  Folorunso Fatukasi DT Connecticut
Rd 6  Darrell WIlliams RB LSU
Rd 7  Azeem Victor LB Washington
Rd7  Ade Aruna DE/OLB  Tulane

No OL at all?!?

The only two OL off the board at the time of our pick were Nelson and McGlinchey.

EVERY OTHER MAJOR OL PROSPECT WAS ON THE BOARD at the time of our pick.

At least those are all good players. Fatukasi in the 4th would be sweet.
