FS Prospects

#1

Out of all the positions on defense, I think FS is the one we will look at the most with Gipson being almost a 10 mil cap hit next year and one of the positions you can usually find in the mid rounds at a high level kind of like we did last year with Harrison.  Harrison was my 2nd favorite safety last year behind James and we ended up getting him in the 3rd round. It wouldnt shock me if we ended up taking a safety in the 3rd or 4th this year as Gipson's replacement next year.  I love Gardner and think he can play either S position but I think he goes in the top 2 rounds and I dont see us taking one that early.

Nasir Adderley comes from a smaller college but if he falls to the 3rd or 4th he might be to good to pass up for our future at FS.  Great range, speed, and a hard hitter.  He looks like everything we want in our FS, can come down and play nickel as well. Crazy ball skills and even though he is a hard hitter, he looks to always use his shoulder and not lead with his head like a lot of hard hitters do.

Haven’t really looked st the safety class this year but I tend to agree that Gip is probably playing his last season here. What’s the chances of Nasir falling to the 3rd or 4th rounds?

4th I would say no chance and 3rd, I would say a slim one.who would of thought Harrison would of fell to the 3rd though?

Adderley appears to be the top-rated small school player in this draft. He appears to have everything a team would want at the safety position. I've seen his name listed in the top 20 players overall on some Big Boards and it wouldn't shock me if he is taken late in the first round. If he does make it to the 2nd round when the Jags are on the clock, he would have to be given some consideration. He would fit right in with the defense from day 1. Of course, offense remains the teams greatest area of need and it would be difficult to pass on an offensive lineman, tight end or even wide receiver who surprisingly falls out of the first round.

The more I think about this draft, my hope is that the Jaguars get the opportunity to trade back in the first round (not too far back) to a team who desperately wants to land either Haskins or Murray. The chances of that may be slim, especially if both excel at the Combine, but it would be great if the Jaguars could somehow land an extra late second rounder or high 3rd round pick in such a trade. That would enable them to likely still get one of their top choices in the first round (Hockenson, Taylor, etc) and add a "luxury" player like Adderly or someone else who was never expected to drop. Historically, the Jaguars have found more success in the the 2nd round (Jack, Jones-Drew, Brackens, etc) than any other round. Of course, the only way this scenerio plays out would be if the Jaguars sign Nick Foles in free agency. If they don't, a quarterback would remain the top priority in this draft.

I would say Jaylon Ferguson is the top rated small school player

Harrison and Adderley are rated the exact same grade on nfl.com

I guess it depends on which draft sight one looks. I like Draft Network and Adderley is rated higher overall (17th) than Ferguson on that one. Same with Draft-Tek, but it's probably about 50-50 and will change again after the Combine. I also like Adderley's bloodlines since his cousin is the great Herb Adderley who played cornerback for the Packers during their glory days.
