There is definitely a lot more going on behind the scenes, and I would bet anything the entire defense feels massively disrespected by Marrone going for 2 in a defensive game. One which your own defense is flat out dominating and to be honest probably has a better shot of creating a turnover and winning the game than the offense does of going down the field again and scoring. I understand that last drive was very nice, but it was the ONLY real drive they mustered up in 60 minutes. This is how I look at it. In the 2nd half.. the Texans largest drive was 30 yards. They punted the ball 4 times and scored 1 TD. That 1 TD was off a fumble from Minshew which gave the ball to the Texans at the 11 yard line. No way you can even consider faulting the defense there. Completely dominated the second half. The defense was on fire. First half, the Texans punted the ball 3 times and had 2 nice drives but only came away with 6 total points. 3 of which were the cause of Marrone not challenging a clear drop. Net to me is a total of 3 actual points given up by the defense. They were damn near shutting out the Texans in their place. The team is built around the defense, you can't disrespect them like that in that spot. The first drive in which Minshew drove down for a FG 39 yards were picked up by 3nette on short dinky passes. He did however connect on a beauty to Conley for 31, but I wouldn't really consider him on fire. The last drive was very nice, no doubt. It did take them 14 plays to get 63 yards, and got to remember Fournette BARELY got that 4th down. TBH if I recall the spot on 3rd down was pretty generous for us, and I think we all thought the refs were going to overturn Fournette getting that 1 yard on 4th down when O'brien challenged it. We also need to remember that the Oline was getting their [BLEEP] handed to them and Minshew had 3 fumbles. In a tight space, I'm going with the Texans D line against our O line. When I put that all together, IMO it's a no brainer you don't disrespect your defense who was shutting the Texans down and beating them up. Hell, maybe even Watson tries to go for something and we get a pick 6 and never even go into OT. I just think it was just a desperate attempt to claim "I'm big man on campus, I run this and I am going for 2 the hell with my defense." |
