He would do just fine at Mike IMO.

I agree. Luke Kuechly measured 6’3 and 242 at his combine. He turned out ok.

Yeah, as much as I'd love a 240-lb LB who runs faster than most receivers 40 lbs. lighter, I think measureables like that on a notoriously slow field in Indy plus the talent and results he's already shown...dude ain't gonna be there at nine. He probably won't make it past the fourth pick. Assuming the Giants go with a 3-4, he's a perfect ILB in an aggressive system.

He's not making it to #9 unfortunately...

With Queen and Murray both getting injured, I wonder what's the odds of one of them falling to our 2nd round pick is? My hope is one of them is there if we dont take Simmons at 9

Oakland and Baltimore are the teams you'd have to worry about at the bottom of rd 1, Cincy in the top of rd 2 as well.

Didn't I hear yesterday that both LB were walking around just fine? I was kind of in and out listening to the coverage, but I could swear that's what I heard.

Don't blame either guy one bit for pulling out of the rest of drills, no need to aggravate it further or do greater damage.

It was reported that both were minor strains (and they were walking around just fine the day after) and that they'll both be doing all of the drills at their Pro Days.

On the question of Simmons as MLB, to me a MLB is mostly about instincts, ability to read and diagnose quickly, and ability to come downhill and make a sure tackle. Who had more physical talent, Myles Jack or Poz? Jack. Who was the better MLB? Poz by a mile.

I might draft Simmons at #9, but I wouldn't put him at MLB unless he's a MLB, as defined above. Otherwise, he might be no better than Myles Jack at MLB, and you've wasted the talent.

I think this is why a lot of fans would prefer a "specialist" MLB.

What I'd like to know (and I've struggled so far to find this) is a breakdown of his performances as MLB.  He's clearly got some experience of playing there, but I'd like an expert-opinion on how he's played there.

If he ends up here I would rather see him play on the outside opposite of Jack with a true MLB installed between the free agency market or maybe later on during the same draft.

I wouldn't be against playing him at safety neither. I think he could be on the same par as Derwin James at the safety position.

His diagnosis ability and his range downhill and laterally are some of his strongest traits

Useful stuff.

That does suggest we'd be wrong to rely on him as a MLB. Not because he'd be bad at it, but because he'd be better used in a more creative way.

Didn't know that about Tashaun Gipson either.

Not familiar with him. I wouldn't mind Patrick Queen or Malik Harrison in RD2 though.

That's not what I have read.  I have read that he is a little slow in diagnosing plays.  For example:

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/isaiah-sim...eeda539963

"He'll miss run fits and can be misdirected due to a lack of instincts near the line..."

Of course, opinions could vary and I am not an NFL scout.  I'm just saying, just because he's a talented Swiss Army Knife kind of player doesn't mean he's our best option at MLB.

What about putting him at the SAM role, but don't rotate in a nickel CB, to keep him on the field.....

Again, same question- just because he CAN play CB, does that make him a better CB than a pure CB?

No, if we draft Simmons, I would want to put him at WLB and keep him there.  But that would mean we keep Myles Jack at MLB, and I would rather move him to WLB.
